This thread is a riot. LA is loaded with places to see great theater for next to nothing. Center theater group has $20 tickets to all their shows and they're easy to get. I saw Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman in Annapurna at the Odyssey front row for $25. Almost everything is on Goldstar for half price and there are hidden gems all over town doing great work charging $15-35. So one show for a few weeks is charging premium prices. Big deal. If you think that's killing live theater in LA, you know absolutely nothing about live theater in LA. Go see one of the other 25-30 great LA productions currently playing if you don't want to pay the $ to see Midler. You'll enjoy it just as much.

Call and ask for HotTix. They are about to release more but give them dates and see if they have any left for the days you want.

Posted: 12/3/13 at 2:27amIt's not killing live theater. This isn't the norm. Tickets to the national Non-Eq tour of Beauty and the Beast in LA didn't have a $300 ticket for 90% of the theater. This is a celeb-driven venture. People are going to see her, not even the show. So it's really just a pop culture thing.

I saw THE EXORCIST at Geffen Playhouse before I moved back to Texas and paid $63 for a center orchestra seat row H. And it had Brooke Shields AND Richard Chamberlain. And no one sat on a couch for the whole show. And it was probably funnier than I'LL EAT YOU LAST! Best dialogue exchange -
Priest: "You know the Bible very well."
Devil: "I should, I wrote it."

I'm bicoastal, so I was lucky to see this in NYC for $35.
LA does has discount options. I see everything on both coasts, and I have NEVER paid over $100 bucks.

So Ms. Streisand watched the play in LA:
""It was a wonderful performance. Bette made me laugh in the same way that Sue did and she touched my heart as Sue did. It isn't the whole story of course. Some of the facts are not true, but it was a very enjoyable evening."
