While I don't necessarily disagree with you, the vast majority of the ticket-buying general public would. There's a reason why the show no longer sold out after Zeta-Jones left Night Music, and it's not because it ceased to be a Sondheim piece.

So it looks like they are giving the 5-show weekend a whirl in September? That will truly be hell on Idina's voice, so Jackie may get to go on, lol. But surely Menzel will take a vacation at some point? She's been working like a whipped dog since the DC run basically. I can't imagine them going dark for a whole week while Idina's out.

^^^ Its been done. The Boy from Oz closed when Hugh Jackman was on vacation. It might have even closed for two weeks.

Hugh's understudy/standby never went on once..
