One down, 7 or 8 to go.
As one of the very, very few on here who didn't see 'a Little Night Music' when it was in London it was the first show we saw on this trip to the big apple. What a great little production. It is far from being the perfect one for me but it looks wonderful and works brilliantly for its size of cast and orchestra.
The cast were brilliant with some very nice voices in there. The set was simple and worked on that stage as Im sure it did in both London versions. Catherine was a very strong Desiree, her and Angela Lansbury complimented each other perfectly.
Its some time since I gripped a theatre seat as I did last night as Ms Lansbury fluffed a few lines but you could really feel the audience almost prompting her through it. She didn't actually fluff in Liasons which is exactly where I thought she would have. What a trouper.
Talking to Catherine after, she said that that audience was the worst they have had in 7 months!!! Every time they went off stage they were puzzled and asking each other if they felt the same. She said it was like playing to 10 people!
As we spoke this little figure walked past us and looked up and said 'night night darlings'- it was Ms Lansbury. I was wowed!
Standing on that stage I couldn't believe how small it was, absolutely nothing. For example, walking from the stage door to the stage was just about 10 feet, another 4 feet and you were on stage! Also, I have never seen such a run down, dated, backstage area in my entire life. Appalling!
We had great seats in E in the stalls.
