Penny, you're still young! You're allowed to make mistakes! But you seem to have some good opinions.

My advice, though, would be to use that grammar, punctuation and spelling you learn in school. Some people here on the board will bite your head off EVERY TIME YOU POST if you don't.

I, frankly, couldn't care less. I get what you're saying. I was 11 once, too. Just ignore those who bug you.

Frankly, TRASH, the expression is "I couldn't care less."

But carry on chatting with the 11 year olds.

I am not one of those punctuation/grammar/capitalization/spelling freaks. But when one boast of how they do it so well in a post that is written in post with so many errors, I feel I had to comment.

By the way, the above does not apply to Leyum he iz fare gaym.

From Musto's column:

"On Broadway, turning Tourette's and OCD into singing and dancing is the uphill challenge of the upcoming In My Life, the rare show with lemons in its logo. At a press rehearsal, we learned that even if the ailments don't sing, there are other offbeat plot points to drive things along. "God has decided to create the first reality opera in heaven," an assistant director said to the riveted crowd, explaining the unorthodox framing device. And if that's not enough, well, there are some other ailments thrown into the aggressively kooky stew. "Later in the story," our tour guide informed us, "we learn that J.T. has a brain tumor and is losing his vision." Honey, if you think I'm missing this one, you've never seen my Playbill collection."

For those of you always going on and on about "Where are the new original musicals?" well, here you go. Maybe now you'll understand why some of us were saying "originality" is totally overrated (and certainly not synonymous with "good").

From Playbill.com:

"This is the only truly original show now on Broadway," composer and director Joe Brooks told Playbill.com at a press preview held Friday morning to showcase his new Broadway musical In My Life.. "It doesn't come from any other play or film or anything like that."

The show follows the decision of God (who is an actual character in the show, played by Michael J. Farina) to create a "reality opera" in which he will set up two humans in New York City with opposite personalties to fall in love with each other: a female writer for the Village Voice and a male singer songwriter with Tourette's Syndrome.

In My Life, which will begin previews on Sept. 27 at the Music Box Theatre, has not been staged before out-of-town or Off-Broadway.

"I didn't want to take the show out of town," Brooks said. "This is my home. I felt like I wanted to put it up here first. We did three readings and two workshops. And you know, I thought that was good enough."

Three musical numbers were staged for the press including the title song "In My Life," a song called "Doom" that was written recently in the rehearsal process, and a montage of sequences involving the whole cast which takes place during the play's climax.

"I think it's a risky show with risky storytelling," said Christopher J. Hanke, who plays the male love interest. "Having the show take place in heaven and in earth is random and bizarre and fantastic. And it has a strong pop score. The melodies are beautiful, and that's Joe's forte."

Jessica Boevers, who plays the female love interest, was quick to point out that, contrary to earlier reports, her character does not have obsessive compulsive disorder. "I think that showed up in a press blurb somewhere, and people have been saying it ever since," Boevers said. "Actually, my character has more of a common story. She's a kid who comes to New York with dreams. She's really intelligent and has so much to offer, but hasn't found her place yet, or where to put her energy."

And why are all of the promotional posters for the show covered with lemons? Hanke wanted to keep that a secret, but Brooks told us: "It's part of the show," he said. "It's what Chris [J. Hanke] says. Part of his Tourette's is that when he's happy, he says `lemon.' It happens over and over again."

It just sounds goofy. I mean if you look at flops like Lennon, The Blonde in the Thunderbird, or even Carrie, I'm sure their press releases sounded more interesteing and solid. People put good money into them because they had somewhere to go. Lennon seems like a good idea still, but the creative team went awry. This one's just crazy!

If the girl doesn't have OCD I want my money back! Shoot. That was the reason to see it. Oh well, at least "God's first Reality Opera" is still in it. And perhaps the brain tumor and the blindness will make up for the no OCD...

I think the Tourettes/ADHD songwriter guy still has OCD, just not the girl.

I'm just sad because it will probably have closed by the time I can get to NY to see it...

thats the point of the eccentricity of the plot, God's opera, its supposed to be strange and out there, as many opera's have strange plots...I love the new plot description

If that is the point then why is the music so mundane? As was mentioned, if this was a campy or edgy show in the vein of BAT BOY, URINETOWN or HEDWIG I might buy that defense.

He says "lemon" over and over again? They're just doing the critics' job for them, aren't they? Mr. Brooks, original does not mean good. Maybe no one has written a show like this before because it's an idiotic concept.

Mr. Roxy: Oh, not 100% of the profits. More like 300%.
