In the Heights or 9 to 5?

I can only see/afford one show, and I want to see something I have not seen.
Right now my top picks are In the Heights and 9 to 5. I want to see 9 to 5 because I hear great things about the three leads, and I hear it is such a fun show. Plus I am not sure if it will last longer than In the Heights.
However, I've been wanting to see In the Heights for a while now, and I know the discounts tend to be more expensive, but I found great seats at an awesome price. And I figure I should take advantage of that now.
I know this is probably apples/oranges, but just wanted to get people's thoughts.
Thanks!
P.S. And I appreciate if people make suggestions about other shows, but I am really set on one of these two. Thanks again!

I've seen both, and I think both shows are wonderful and fun with great music and performances, but IN THE HEIGHTS didn't win a Tony for nothing

In the Heights.
Who cares if it lasts or not. If you can only see one show, don't you want it to be the better show of the two? Who knows when the OP will be able to see another show in NY...they might BOTH be closed.

Posted: 6/23/09 at 8:35pmI love both shows but I would go with In The Heights. It is a fun musical but also with a very deep plot.

Posted: 6/23/09 at 8:41pmThe music of In The Heights is much more pleasant to listen to, so I'm going to suggest In the Heights.

Posted: 6/23/09 at 9:03pmThere is a very high profile musical revival transfer that has its sight set on the Marquis. 9to5 is expected to be out before the fall.

Posted: 6/23/09 at 9:13pmI really don't think so. 9 to 5 isn't suffering it is making above its nut.

Posted: 6/23/09 at 9:20pmBEFORE Fall? Doubtful. I can't imagine 9 to 5 not making it through the entire summer...and because of word of mouth past that.

Posted: 6/23/09 at 9:24pmI figured I'd be in the minority here, but I'd have to go with 9 to 5. I loved both shows (I actually love most shows, but...). I think that overall, while In the Heights is a more satisfying experience after a while, 9 to 5 is a lot of fun. I was actually pretty bored through a lot of In the Heights, especially basically the entire second act. 9 to 5 breezed by, had upbeat, fun music and was funnier. It depends on what you are looking for. If you could only see one of these ever, I'd say In the Heights. But for right now, I'd go with 9 to 5 now and then In the Heights sometime later.

9 to 5. I found ITH overrated. Great dancing, though. Which, oddly, is the same dancing thats in 9 to 5.

Posted: 6/23/09 at 10:23pmGotta go with 9to5 here...ITH was one of the most boring things I've seen in a while. I almost fell asleep during the second act. Weak year for musicals when that came out!

Posted: 6/23/09 at 10:36pmso you fell asleep during Carnaval del Barrio? i find that hard to believe. i'm going to go with in the heights. 9 to 5 was ok. like everyone says it was cute, but in the heights won the tony for a good reason. not becuase it was a weak year.

In The Heights. Without a doubt.
I don't know how you were bored/fell asleep. I can understand how someone can not like it but is the farthest thing from boring on Broadway. Every number is an energetic loud crowd pleasing number.

Posted: 6/23/09 at 10:44pmI said I was bored through almost all of the second act. That was with the exception of Carnaval del Barrio and the last minute of the show. And maybe the first five seconds of that song where Priscilla Lopez screams at Nina and her husband. The first act was leagues better than the second, IMO.
