In the tour, how do Peretti, and Panch and the spellers get to the house of the theatre without the audience members seeing them before the show. They both make their entrances from the house near the begining of the show. Do most theatres have a way for cast members to get to the front of the theatre from backstage w/o coming out the stage door, and walking around to the front?
I recently saw the show on tour, and could not figure this out. When I went and show the show, I knew noting about. I did not even know about the audiences chance to be in the "bee." After I got to thinking about this, I remembered the few people to tried to recrut audience members to sign up.. and they all seemed like cast members. I remember an African Amercian man sitting at the sign up table who I thought could have played Mitch, and an large sized man who looked like William Barfee, and also also an Asian girl who could have played Marcy Parks.
Does anyone know how this works? Do the cast memebers just dress in "Spelling Bee" shirts, then just change in the lobby before they make their entrace?

the people who are recruiting are usually the swings for the show, not the characters
Yep, the understudies are usually recruiting people before the show begins. I believe that most theatres do have a "pass door" for actors to get into the lobby and make entrances from the back if the house.

I don't know of any theater that doesn't have some kind of door leading from the house/lobby to backstage. Any theater without is a poorly designed theater. Not just cast, but other people would need to go back and forth. Just because you don't know where it is doesn't mean it's not there.
Of course there is access from FOH to backstage.
If there wasn't that would be like saying there is no access from the kitchen in your home to the front door.

It depends on the theatre....

Alright. I am going to look real hard for it when I go to see the Movin Out tour next week.
