It seems they have attempted to appease both sides by eliminating a traditional female pants role and by rewriting the native American passages. This will probably work as well as expected.
I'm just "Peter Pan-ed out" at this point. I get it, though, it's a beloved property that will sell.
I have high hopes for it. It is a classic show, and if they can make the Native American stuff palatable, then it can continue to have life. It’s basically unproduceable as originally written because of that issue. And when I played the Cathy Rigby version for my younger students they were VERY confused about Peter Pan being played by a girl. It is a British/European theatre tradition that Americans are no longer familiar with.

The fact that is non Equity and a male playing Peter doesn’t aspire confidence

if only it was just to dumb it down for Americans, but we know the real sad reason.
My very first professional theater experience was seeing Cathy Rigby at the Garden back in 2005. I have the A&E produced VHS of the tour's run at the La Miranda Theatre and, during the overture, my mother had to VERY QUICKLY cover my mouth and instruct me that I was not allowed to sing along to the overture (good parenting).
I'm hopeful that this tour will be the first live, professional theater experience for many, many children and for that alone I am happy. :)
I’ll be seeing this out of morbid curiosity and because it’s part of the season package but I know I’ll be sitting there missing Rigby.
