i think it sounds great. tracie is better than i expected her to be and rosario isn't as bad as i feared.
the "new" sound adds a lot more energy which should help with the pace.
timing changes (christmas/new years/etc) i dont kind so much until LVB when mark says "on these nights when we celebrate the birth" ummm, i don't know of anyone who celebrates jesus' birth for numerous nights
and then the switching parts when they get to "Maureen Johnson, back from her spectacular one-night engagement at the
eleventh street lot,
Will sing native american tribal chants backwards through her vocoder,..."
I felt like they didn't want me to get too comfortable with the old music, which maybe a good thing, but i think we still need to wait for the context the movie puts the songs into
HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE THING
Jesse's "getting dizzy" all *deepthroaty* obvious pun, sorry
I think the best part about the soundtrack is some of the new underscoring for the songs and some of the new harmonies. Adds a new flair to the music and freshens it up. I love the instrumental in "Tango: Maureen" and how much more tango-y it sounds! Thoms is wonderful.
It's gonna take a couple listens to get used to the missing dialogue/lines that aren't there (at least not on the CD) and all the other stuff that's missing, like the voicemails and what not. Does anyone know where you can read a copy of the script for the movie? I'm curious to give it a once over.
So much more to say, but I'll leave it to others to say.
I will have my copy in hand in t minus 12 hours! (Probably less.)
Like: OSG, OT and ICY
Don't like: LMC...LMC...LMC
I've only listened to the entire soundtrack once, and only a few songs multiple times, and those are the ones that stand out. I dig that "Rent" sounds more rockish and edgier than the OBCR. I think Adam's voice sounds great in OSG, but what I'm disappointed in was that for all the complaints about the OBCR not being "gritty enough", I thought OSG and LMC sounded too "studio" and less raw than the OBCR!
I'm sure it probably wasn't intentional, but as resident seminarian I must add: Many cultures celebrate Jesus' birth on multiple nights since it is seen as symbolic. The entire "birth narrative" is condensed and celebrated and can be condensed to "the nights on which we celebrate the birth"
All of that notwithstanding, I'm sure it sounds weird and was a mistake, right?
Okay, I broke down and got the whole thing from iTunes.
Yeah, LMC kinda bugs. It was the first song I learned from Rent (long story involved) so I have a particular attachment to that song. It just seemed like too much vocal acting and not enough singing.
And I felt a psycho during Rent. At the parts when Joanne normally is talking to Maureen on the phone, I actually looked around, trying to figure out what happened to the voices.
from what i've figured out of the timing, it's definately NOT sung on christmas eve. it is sung after Today 4 U, in which we learn it is now Christmas Day. The only other time reference we have is Out Tonight's "we wont be back before it's new years day" but that doesn't mean she's singing on new years eve
i'm so confused

Is it just me or does Adam make a funny noise in Light My Candle?
"Oh no, I mean you do have a nice *weird squeegee noise* I mean.."
And how about that lone MOO-er in OVM? haha!
Anytime from the solstice until Jan 4th can be considered the "nights on which we celebrate the birth"
are those the 12 days of christmas??
In the "digital booklet" it's basically what the inside of the CD is. Chris Columbus has a great intro. And before Love Heals, there's a blurb about why they included it. It's there as a tribute to Jonathan and to help further the cause of AIDS education. Not to try and get an Oscar nom out of it, ya cynics!
Yes, that's where 12 days of Christmas comes from, it's a feast in honor of the Wise Men visiting Jesus.
There's a lot of time/space issues that I don't think can truley be solved until we see the movie. lol. I will give major kudos to the person who sits down and figures it all out, though.
ontheskyway, i think this is adam acting! it sounds like he's speechlessly stuttering, if that makes any sense.
The 12 days are from Christmas Eve until the 4th (Epiphany which for nearly 1000 years was the important holiday.)
It is the time the "wise men" are supposed to have shown up and given the baby the gifts. (Gold to symbolize his kingship, Frankensence his role as preist, and Myrhh his role as prophet.)
maybe it's some weird combo of christmas and hanukkah they're celebrating. 8 nights of christmas? lol
Christmukah!!
EDIT
However should they use the word "Christmukah" in the movie I will shoot myself, it's a little too oc for me
Hanukmas? X-ukah? lol The story of how Rudolph's nose managed to stay lit for 8 days on Santa's trip with a Rabbi to see the newly born Christ child and give him gold, frankensence, and a circumcision!
Yamaclaus!
I have no idea if it is what they are intending in the Movie, but I promise what I said is a real celebration.
haha. Another O.C. fan!
Tiff, I agree with ya. LMC was a big disappointment to me.
Rosario has a beautiful voice, but it kinda bugs me at times. I can't explain why; it almost seems like she's trying too hard. Maybe Daphne is permanently Mimi in my mind and hearing anyone else in the role bugs me, I'm not sure.
I also miss the dialogue. The absence of the opening of You'll See (Hey you! Move over!...) disappointed me because I love the way Taye says that line on the OBCR! But I know I can't get hung up on little differences like that. And there are parts of the soundtrack that I like better than the OBCR. I think Over the Moon is well done.
considering how much time if left on the cds i'm suprised they didn't include more dialogue. and more taye, people who buy this because of his name are going to be disapointed.
I think that while Rosario's voice is good, it's thinner than other Mimi's, and she doesn't have the hoarse edge that Daphne had. While she tries too hard to emote, it just doesn't do anything for me. And the "I'm just born to be bad" made me cringe.
I hope these aren't the exact vocals that they lip-sync to the in the movie.
Okay, I just got to Over the Moon and the random "MOO!" at the end made me laugh so hard I spit.
And I love Wilson/Angel's (I feel weird saying the character name since we know who the people are behind the voices, ya know?) "Who died?" in LVB. I've pulled the fake-ditz thing so many times and he got it dead on.
Does anyone know how much of the dialogue from the show makes it into the movie? I'm just curious how much watching the movie is going to be like watching the show as far as familiariarty to dialogue is concerned. I haven't been keeping up to date on this kind of stuff, so I have no clue as to how much, like, actual dialogue was added and what not. Does anyone know where I can go to see/read what exactly was cut from the movie and what was added? **Edit** I.E. the voicemails and what not. **Edit** A copy of the script online would be pefect.... Thanks!
