The biggest problem I had with the revival was the lackluster cast. No one in the revival came near the quality of the original production.
On the other hand, I think the revival was much more effective in terms of set and costume and general direction.
If they'd been able to transport the original cast through time to 2002 and land them in the revival production, we'd be talking about a masterwork here.

Chad Kimball was the only one I liked. Red Riding Hood and Jack's Mother were the worst.
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
Fair enough, doodle. Chad Kimball was a wonderful Milky White. If only he'd been as good in MEMPHIS.
I was appalled by that kid playing Red Riding Hood, but I really wanted them to hand that Jack kid over to the Giant's Wife. Such a handy resolution to all of their problems, and nobody'd miss the little pr*ck.

Only seen a handfull of clips but I was given the cd as an opening night gift when I played Jack in a community theatre production. Huge fan of the show. Huge fan of Vannessa Williams. But i find this cast recording almost unlistenable. I actually hated Vanessa for years because this was my only real exposure to her. Then her recording of Kiss of the Spider Woman came into my life... and now all is right with the world
