In what show?
I hope not either. I hope that they give it to Derrick Williams. He is uber-amazing.

Yeah, David Ayers is not the most talented performer on Broadway, but I'd rather see him than see his Understudy...he was absolutely horrific!

Yeah, i do. I don't care if he sucks, I wanna see it for myself.
Who is his understudy?
greene, are you talking about clifton something? I saw him... and where david is lacking in singing (someone should really tell him what key his songs are in) clifton lacks in acting.

Clifton Oliver right? He's got one of those names that just sticks in my head.

No..I can't remember the name of the guy I saw, and he sang even worse than david! I think his name was Jarred something?? Sorry I have the WORST memory and I think I tried to block him out of my head!
I seem to be one of the lone David Ayers supporters on this board. Now I am just giving my opinion everyone- but I have seen every Fiyero actor in various ways and I found that only he and Norbert have played the underwritten part right (again just my opinion)- but even I think he really should not extend. His acting is fine, but he just can't hit the right notes for Fiyero but yet, besides Norbert, honestly, who really has? The songs were written for Norbert anyway. Anyway, back to David, time to move on to better things for him (He did get great nods for Tom Jones so he has got potential). But if Jared Botz takes over...well then its not going to be pretty.

Cliffton HALL.
Does no one bother to check websites before they post?
I guess not, if people in this thread seem to think someone's last name can be a posessive...

who's Clifton Oliver? Did just make that up? Weird. I do that a lot. Anyways, who is "tom jones" ? Like, what's that from? Although - I would think if he's been in the show for a year, his voice should be able to comfortable hitting the notes by now, right?

as far as talent goes, he's not the hottest role in the basket, if you know what I mean...i hope he doesn't extend...it's just not fair to any talented people...

Tom Jones was a musical based on the Oscar winning movie that David was in during the month-long New York Musical Festival back in Sept. Both the musical and he received high praise.
Regarding Clifton, all I have heard about him from boards was that Shoshana called him the best kisser of the ensemble. I have no clue about his talent.
Is there something about the vocal range for this part that I am not aware of? I have seen the music and yes sung some of the songs (although I would not claim to be up to standard of them) I can sing the part and I am more of a high baritone. Those big notes are only Fs if I recall. And in the duet the really high notes were done in falsetto by Norbert. It cant be that hard to find an actor in NY who can act and sing what is an ideal role for a young male leading man.
But then what do us crazy Brits know?
Well Mrkringas, all I can really say is that he auditioned for what was (and is) a hot role on Broadway and obviously he met the casting director's expectations. Joey Mac was a big name but David Ayers certainly was not. Plus, he's been there almost an entire year so he's doing something right. Its very strange thing though. Most Broadwayworld posters hate him but many who I know (who also have good taste in music and theatre)who care for Wicked think he does just fine. To each his own, I suppose.
Yeah i agree with what you said there. I cant believe he would not meet the casting directors expectations. I guess a show such as Wicked produces its own highly charged partisans
I saw David twice in Wicked, and he was more than acceptable - I only remember cringing on one of his high notes, and he seemed to have great chemistry with both Megan and Shoshana. Norbert was better, but David Ayers held his own, I thought. Maybe I was just lucky both times.
