...just as criminal as hating a show before you see it? It seems okay with many posters to lavish affection on something that they've never seen, or heard for that matter, and not okay to dislike a show based on commercials and television appearances. Seems a tad hypocritical to me. If anyone on this board judges something prior to seeing it, negatively judges it that is, they're told they need to see the show first. But it seems okay to join fanclubs, make t-shirts for, and defend a show you've never seen. What's with that?

Who deemed it criminal either way?

I'll never forget when some little fangirl came on here years ago and kept promoting her BROOKLYN fanpage before the show even began rehearsals. How the hell can you LIKE something when you haven't SEEN it?

Ignorance.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

How appropriate and mature, BobbyBubby.

Who deemed it criminal?

And sure - let's just criticize and slam down all passionate theater people - especially if they show affection for a show!

I'm usually not able to see shows, but I fall in love with cast recordings and the bits I see online. That doesn't mean I wouldn't see the show if I could.

What about the people here who predict a show and actors will be nominated for the Tony before the first preview in New York?

The only criminal thing around here is to enjoy popular shows or those not deemed by elitists to be worthy of a Broadway run. Everything else is fine. Judge away! This ain't the Bible.

This reminds me of Hunter Bell's line in [title of show] where he says he has all these opinions on Ruthless! and he's never even seen it before.
This is different, but I was in a production of Annie as the title character before I even saw the stage show or the movie...and I'm still in love with the show.

WEll, typically, when I dislike a show, and haven't seen it, it's because of the score. In some cases a score has to be "seen" (A Catered Affair was one. Loved it live. Hate it on disc). In some cases, it's just not my tastes. (Wedding Singer, Fantasticks)

Now, when someone only knows hte plot overiview and hasn't seen or heard anything else...then I take an issue.

I really don't think someone who wrote their own BWW engagement article announcement, and posted it as top news, is fit to judge my maturity level.

It was a genuine question. The same people who adore a show before seeing it are slamming those who dislike a show before seeing it. It's the same thing. I was attempting to start a discussion and YOU chose to pick apart my use of the word criminal.

I assume you're a smart guy, although I'm not sure based on the editing, or lack of, in articles posted on BWW lately (you're was used instead of your, now that's CRIMINAL), and can easily figure out that my use of the word criminal was not literal. Your know-it-all demeanor is what elicits responses like mine. Not my so-called lack of maturity. Lack of maturity is displayed in most everything you do on this board. Deleting negative comments about Kerry Butler, even when they're constructive, deleting discussions about substantial rumors that BWW wants the official "scoop on" (even though Playbill most always scoops you), and creating threads with babies singing showtunes only begin to paint a picture of who really needs to take maturity lessons.

Feel free to delete this now. It's the only real power you have in the world.

I really don't think someone who wrote their own BWW engagement article announcement, and posted it as top news, is fit to judge my maturity level.

Bobby - I didn't write the article nor did I post it on BWW. And it was never top story. If you want to start an attack on me and BroadwayWorld, at least be factually correct. The story on BroadwayWorld was written by a staff member here who got my mass email when I announced my engagement. Furthermore, I fail to see how any of my engagement story on BroadwayWorld is an indication of maturity.

It was a genuine question. The same people who adore a show before seeing it are slamming those who dislike a show before seeing it. It's the same thing. I was attempting to start a discussion and YOU chose to pick apart my use of the word criminal.

I responded with a genuine question. I asked who deemed it criminal. I'm sorry if YOU find that picking apart your question. If you're going to post an opinion here, you should be (and I know YOU are) strong enough to back it up regardless.

I assume you're a smart guy, although I'm not sure based on the editing, or lack of, in articles posted on BWW lately (you're was used instead of your, now that's CRIMINAL), and can easily figure out that my use of the word criminal was not literal.

Again, you like to be on the attack and make things personal. Not only do you enjoy it based on the amount you do it, but you're factually incorrect yet again. So while you're trying to be snarky and "assume" I'm a smart guy, I'll alert you to the fact that I haven't written or posted a news story in nearly a year. I've been working behind the scenes with videos and other multimedia projects for the site.

Your know-it-all demeanor is what elicits responses like mine. Not my so-called lack of maturity.

Your posts speak for themselves as they always have BobbyBubby. I've called you out on it a few times. You have something personal against me, the site or both. It's your perogative. But no one here believes or can be convinced that you're an innocent one. Your posts have incredible sarcasm and a nastiness to them - not just towards BWW, but other posters here. It's unfortunate as you seem passionate about theater but yet so angry most of the time. It's an observation I, and several posters have made. It's not me being condescending.

Lack of maturity is displayed in most everything you do on this board. Deleting negative comments about Kerry Butler, even when they're constructive, deleting discussions about substantial rumors that BWW wants the official "scoop on" (even though Playbill most always scoops you),

Again you seek to attack me personally here regarding Kerry in specific (and have several times in your OH SO pleasant demeanor). I personally don't care what you think of the situation. I sincerely don't. I've explained on the board several times that there are a team of moderators here who delete posts. In fact, if anything, I argue to let posts about Kerry stay regardless of content (assuming they don't break board rules) for exactly the reason that it may appear to be biased. You're honing in on one particular performer because you know very well that I have a connection to them. In reality, hundreds of posts are deleted a day about many performers and shows.

As for deleting so-called scoops. BroadwayWorld has always done its best to not perpetuate rumors of closings, castings, etc unless they've been verified by the press rep, producers, or other people associated with whatever news is being discussed. And personally - I could care less who posts a story first. And since I'm not writing or posting news stories, I, personally am not even involved with those goings on anyway.

and creating threads with babies singing showtunes only begin to paint a picture of who really needs to take maturity lessons.

Perhaps you can enlighten me about posting links about some cute kids taking an interest in Broadway is immature.

Feel free to delete this now. It's the only real power you have in the world.

No thanks. No doubt you were sitting at your computer all smug and smiling as you wrote this post. It speaks for itself as does my reply.
