Is That Alice Ripley On The Poster For FOLLIES (2001)?

Well, there is a difference between making it through a song and hitting all the notes. At the performance I saw, and in all recordings I've heard, Ivey managed the former (and just barely). Not pretty to hear.

Victoria Clark was a great Sally at Encores, the rare singing actress who could handle the demands of the score and act the role with aplomb. Personally, I'd love to see Christine Andreas or even Marin Mazzie as Sally. Or Clark again.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

"The Roundabout Follies was a criminal act of aggression against a great piece of theater."

Geez. Hyperbolize much, Joey? I actually don't like the book of Follies, mostly because I don't have much sympathy for any of the main characters. I find them self-involved and unlikable. The music, on the other hand, I enjoy. The Belasco was a great space for it, and many of the supporting players were brilliant (Polly Bergen, for example). The casting of the four major characters was inexplicable, though.

I saw Ivey many, many times (long story). She simply isn't a singer.

"Victoria Clark was a great Sally at Encores, the rare singing actress who could handle the demands of the score and act the role with aplomb."

All true, and I would see her (and have), in just about everything she's ever done - even the gawd-awful Grand Night for Singing at the old Criterion in, what, '93? She even made a great Fritzie in Cabaret years ago.

Moi?

Actually, I do use hyperbole often, but in this case, the statement in question--The Roundabout Follies was a criminal act of aggression against a great piece of theater--was clearly an understatement.

Since you mean that literally, good luck with prosecuting that case.
