Has always been one of my favorite shows. I played Mayor Shinn in Middle school
. How was the 2000 revival and would you like to see it revived soon? I mean if Fiddler can do it...

Personally? NO. Realistically? Possibly. With no doubt it'll happen in the next 5 years for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to get it funded as of now. Music Man is one of those classic/spectacle mixed family shows that could either do very well on Broadway or be a completely bore (which I personally find it anyways).

I loved the Stroman revival - even though I though Craig Bierko was doing Robert Preston, so saw nothing great in his performance. I went back to see Eric McCormack when he took over - I liked it even more with Eric. And of course Rebecca Luker was just enthralling!
So I really don't need a revival - can't think of what could be brought to it that Stroman didn't enlighten and can't think of anyone I would want to see in it.

The 2000 Susan Strohman Music Man generated huge enthusiasm in previews with
the audience giving standing ovations in the first act. A tepid review
from the Times hindered the revival's becoming a big hit.
I would be delighted to hear that again the Wells Fargo Wagon is a comin'.

There's a long list of shows I'd rather see revived.
But if it's a good production who can resist the joy of The Music Man?

Posted: 3/27/15 at 10:52pmMusic Man is one of those shows you either love it or you hate it. Personally, I did the show and for reasons that didn't even have anything to do with the material itself, I had a really rotten experience I'm sorry to say.

Posted: 3/28/15 at 1:52amI can't imagine anyone hating the Music Man. It's one of those fun for the whole family wonderfully old-fashioned musicals. If the productions is good, I'd love to see a Broadway caliber cast take on the material (I've only ever seen community theaters do it, most successfully).

The Music Man is a such a perfect tight well constructed classic musical it's hard to think there is a time that isn't' right for it. The bigger question is who can carry it. I really think it demands a star talent or personality. Someone who can make the audience focus on them and not the memory of Robert Preston.
I enjoyed the Stroman revival, but it felt like the film just splashed on stage. And Craig Bierko while very engaging, was Robert Preston's standby.
Curious- Did anyone see Robert Sean Leonard when he replaced? I wonder what he would be like in a musical. He's a very good actor but no clue of his vocal skill.

No. It's just overdone.
The movie is near perfection and no one can do it better.
The Strohman version was pretty good but
No one can touch Robert Preston.
What Matthew Broderick did to it was murder in the first degree.
They should keep Matthew and the Music Man off the stage for a while.
This needs to rest about 10 years before a revival.

Posted: 3/28/15 at 1:03pmWhile I'm not chomping at the bit for another revival, if there was one, I'd actually really like to see Andrew Samonsky play Harold Hill. I was surprised at how much I liked him at that Transport Group Music Man concert last summer, since I found him pretty stiff and uninteresting in South Pacific (in what I would imagine to be an easier role than Harold Hill).
