Does anyone remember in 2021 when Paramount announced they were developing a remake of The King & I? I still hope it happens because of the possibilities of proper Asian representation and how important the story is.
Last update I heard was from Daniel Richtman back in October of last year. According to him, David Henry Hwang was writing the script.

^ Thank goodness some minor momentum. If this works, I want to see Emily Blunt & Daniel Dae Kim together
Being that Paramount will soon have a new owner and previous studio leadership is being replaced, just assume that the film is NOT happening unless it is confirmed otherwise.
Films that don't go anywhere are announced all the time. Those announcements should be taken with a grain of salt until a director, and a writer, and star, and a timeline are announced, especially when those films are musicals.
Always better to manage your expectations.

If you don't think good movies are being made regularly, that might be a "you" problem more than anything :) In a given year, anyone who sees a great deal of movies should be able to find 5 or 10 great ones and a lot more very good ones. Especially since films from around the world have never been more accessible to watch than they are right now.

You well may be -- but there have been tons of good movies recently that aren't "blockbusters". It's not necessarily "hard to find good movies" these days, if you look outside of the big studios.
