No. They're turning it into the East Coast's largest Jack-in-the-Box.
Not for awhile I am afraid.
sorry not for awhile, lucky if one goes there soon after hairspray closes. it is defintite theatre for a musical not a play. i feel a maybe new musical like if addams family comes to broadway, but i feel more like a revival such as godspell or if they decide to bring the wiz back.
Other threads people have said that Addams Family has the Shubert.

I see no problem keeping Hairspray there til they get something... I'm not ready for it to leave.

Blithe Spirit has the Shubert. The rumor around here was that the Dirty Dancing "musical" would be transferring to the Neil Simon, but that doesn't seem to be happening.
I'm with you Zeppy. :)
If "Dirty Dancing" ever transfers to Broadway, I'll, like, pull a Czolgosz at the stagedoor.

Sweeney Toddler, the only reason why I opened this thread at all is because I absolutely love your username. And it made me imagine George Hearn's head on a two-year-old body, which isn't something I'll likely be soon forgetting.

Maybe if Minsky's has a successful out of town tryout, they'll take it?

I think it's a pretty risky show to open in this climate.
Blithe Spirit is limited. Addams Family isn't supposed to open until next Fall I believe.
I think it would be all too perfect for The Addams Family to take the Belasco Theatre

It'll be too big a show for that house. It'll go into a larger house more suited to musicals, like the Neil Simon or Shubert.
I know, but the atmosphere would be wonderful

I have no idea about the backstage area of the theatre, but I would love to see Rebecca, if it does come, to take residence at the Neil Simon in 2010.

Damn Yankees anyone? Or is that still going into the St. James?

Also, I agree, the Belasco would be perfect...

I don't see what other people see in "Hairspray." It was good, but it's had its moment in the sun. When I saw it a few weeks ago I saw nothing fresh or new about it. It seemed like the exact same production I saw on tour a few years ago. You'd think the Broadway production would have been bigger, and better, but it wasn't.
I think your insane if you don't think Dirty Dancing will make its way to NY, its a cash cow, a huge cash cow
Absolutely. I saw the London production a while ago and have never seen so many people buying (tons!) of merchandise. I wish Minsky's would get the Neil Simon though... fingers crossed for that one!
In this economy, cash cows end up in the slaughterhouse.
Mr Roxy, normally, I would agree with you. But (much to my surprise) I didn't notice any bad economy when I saw those middle aged ladies stocking up on 'I carried a watermelon' and 'Nobody puts baby in a corner' t-shirts.

		     			Please explain the quotes.

Thanks

Not much to explain, they're quotes from the movie / show....
