I heard about an audition that allows you to be seen by multiple Broadway shows whether touring or in NYC. Does anyone know what this is called or where I would find information about this?

Thanks!

I've never heard of such a thing. I think you may be confused with auditions for regional theaters, (particularly for the summer season, if I remember correctly.)

I'm sorry I don't remember the name of it though.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Straw Hat are non-equity auditions for multiple regional & summer stock theaters...there are other showcases and such that actors could participate in in the NYC area but there Broadway contracts and casting needs are very specific. You're not going to see one blanket audition for multiple Broadway shows.

That doesn't make sense considering all Broadway shows are looking for different personalities and talents.

Broadway musicals tend to hold general auditions for future replacements, but I've never heard of a combined audition for multiple Broadway musicals.

The only remotely comparable situation would be if one of the bigger casting offices (such as Telsey) sees you for one show, and then from that audition may realize it might be worth seeing you for another production that they are also casting. But, as others have pointed out, there has never really been a situation where you are being seen for multiple Broadway shows in one audition.

The only combined audition I know of is fr Strawhats/summer stock.

You could be meaning someone getting a "general" audition with a casting office as well. That's more of an audition for an office to see new talent and them perhaps call someone back for a particular show they are casting down the road.

Sometimes a few regional theatres or Shakespeare Festivals will combine their auditions....but I've never really heard of Bway shows doing it.

Sort of. I seem to recall that Casting Offices will occasionally hold open calls for performers to be considered for multiple shows. I haven't seen it done in a long time, but it's definitely possible.

Unless something has changed, each Broadway show is required by the union to hold its own principal and chorus calls.

But dmama is right that regional theaters (union and non-union) join together so that performers can audition once and be seen by a number of employers. Otherwise young actors would have to spend their entire year traveling from theater to theater.

Here's the one for the Southeast area:

Their next set of auditions is in September for the "Winter" season.

Again, the above is for REGIONAL THEATERS, not Broadway.

When I interned at Telsey years and years ago, they definitely had open calls for multiple shows in various cities like Vegas/LA/Chicago. The flyers and notices said they were looking for people for various productions of Wicked, RENT, etc...

And its been standard for some time for large shows to also hold auditions in L.A. But, to my knowledge, each show holds its own audition there (except in the case of a large casting company, of course).

When my husband worked casting for the Harold Prince office, they would be casting for A DOLL'S LIFE, say, but they also had multiple companies of EVITA and SWEENEY on Broadway and touring, so of course the roles for the latter shows were always in the back of their minds.

Nasty? Was it just Telsey in the room? To me I can see that Telsey was just looking for people and then later on call the folks in who fit the right show.

The original poster I think is thinking a "General Audition" as in having like say the Producers of Wicked, Rent, etc all in one room and fighting over that one person (which I know does not happen)...in the San Francisco Bay Area, they have what is called the "Theater Bay Area General Auditions", where all the major regional, community and educational theater companies (either their casting directors, or artistic directors or both) fill one big theater and just watch people all day do monologues and or songs. It usually happens in Jan/Feb of each year. Every person who registered gets a copy of all headshots and resume who audition over the 2-3 day period. It's kind of cool.

@nasty, it would be nice if Telsey did something like that in NY, considering (as a non-eq) I have literally never been seen for Wicked...
