for the right price there is insurance for everything but the price is likely outrageous.
the better advice might be that if a show is in demand the ticket can easily be resold and if not there is no reason to buy in advance.

Buy really good seats to really good shows and get PDF tickets... that is my theater insurance. If I can't make it, then you can often make money on StubHub.

Well; I understand buying all the tickets in advance when your coming from so far . I’m thinking that since now one can easily resell tickets at the swipe of a phone insurance might be silly. But I understand the concern . ..

Fewer and fewer events on Ticketmaster are offering PDF print at home tickets. Ticketmaster's plan is to completely eliminate print at home option in the near future.

Well, if it's on Ticketmaster, you can resell it... on Ticketmaster.

I noticed when buying tickets to Burn This at the Hudson, that before checkout insurance was offered for around $18 for the two tickets (I think). The terms seemed pretty broad -- travel issues, sickness, work etc. These tickets were purchased through the Hudson Theater ticketing site - not Telecharge or Ticketmaster. Don't recall whether offered there.

Ticketmaster offers ticket insurance through Allianz or you can attempt to resell through Ticketmaster itself. Telecharge has no insurance option.

Dame, both Ticketmaster and Telecharge offer ticket insurance. But as I recall, there are some conditions like being sick. Natural disasters or classic "acts of God" generally aren't. What I have found is that if they can't make it and want to move it to another date, they should have little problems doing so depending on the demand and popularity of the show and presuming they call them two weeks prior. However, I've gotten telecharge to reassign a ticket with only 24 hrs notice b/c I was in the ER and I didn't have the insurance. Other options are stubdhub or selling on Ticketmaster or even on this website.
This is one of the reasons I do box office holds b/c it makes it easier to make changes or reassign them to someone else. And I agree, buy good seats in a good show. Good luck to the resellers for Donna Summer considering most of the theater was unsold for this Saturday as of last night. Hope this helps.

The $7 insurance charge I paid for my Waitress tickets in Memphis in January wasn't outrageous at all. Better than losing a full priced ticket.

If it's through Allianz, I wouldn't bother. I used them for travel insurance once and will never use them again. They make you jump through a million hoops to file a claim, I had to keep contacting them to process my claim only to find out they needed yet another supporting document, and in the end they denied the claim because, according to the policy, "terrorism and acts of war" were not valid reasons for canceling a trip. Maybe it's different for things like show/concert tickets, and I suppose if the insurance is pretty cheap, it's not a big deal, but be aware that filing a claim can be more of a hassle than it's worth and you need very specific, valid reasons for doing so. If I wasn't able to use my tickets to a show, I would rather go through the process of trying to sell my tickets instead, even if I ended up losing some money in the deal.
