Love Never Dies...apparently.
Surely they will get another tenant prior to LND. LND is premiering in London, no?
I thought LND was premiering in three places at the same time. NY, London, and one other place.
Love Never Dies premieres in London this fall, then has a tryout in Toronto, prior to that company opening in New York in April. A Shanghai company gets thrown in there somewhere as well.
Shanghai...that's it. I could not remember the third city for the life of me. I kept wanting to say Sydney.
Would that not be hella expensive? Why not just open it in New York. I'm surprised they didn't scoop up the St. James right across the street.
If it transfers, they're looking at putting Ragtime at the Neil Simon.
Re Love Never Dies - the London production is first (at the Adelphi), followed by Toronto (at the Alex) and Shanghai (no idea of the theatre), both of which are try-outs for New York (most likely at the Neil Simon) and Sydney (at the Capitol) respectively.
Since the timeline has been pushed back and the London production now opens in March 2010, expect the show in New York by September/October of next year. There is more than enough time for a few limited seasons to go in there between now and when Phantom 2 invades.

Unknown producers were looking at the Neil Simon just the other day...don't expect the Phantom sequel to go there.

Thanks Fosse - - so the Simon may be booked before LND?

The St. James has Finian's Rainbow.
I would not be surprised if Phantom closed and LND went into the Majestic...it'd be a bit cannibalistic to have both shows up at once.
I doubt the producers would close Phantom, which is still running strong after 20 years. It continues to sell extremely well, and I hope they wouldn't be stupid enough to close it to make way for ALW's new vanity piece.
Well considering that the producers of Phantom are Cameron and Webber then anything can happen. But, I recall reading an article a few years back when the project got announced that Webber wanted both shows playing at once. That way one could see the first one and be curious as to what happens next and then book tickets to the second one.
Winston - the entire original creative team of Phantom (of course with the exception of ALW himself) are steering VERY clear of Love Never Dies:
1. Cameron Mackintosh is not producing ... RUG is doing that
2. Hal Prince is not directing ... Jack O'Brien is doing that
3. Richard Stilgoe is not writing the book ... Ben Elton is doing that
4. Charles Hart isn't writing lyrics ... Glenn Slater is doing that
5. Gillian Lynne isn't choreographing ... Jerry Mitchell is doing that
