well I agree that you can't beat seeing it live but I really am holding high hopes for the movie. It sounds like they are doing a great job with it so far.
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart.

in the end though, if you're THAT attached to the costumes you haven't seen the worst of it. just wait till regional companies get their hands on it...

Yeah, once the movies come up most of the costumes will become national best sellers at most clothing outlets. :-P Again, get ready for the apocolypse of RENT-heads my friends...

This really doesn't bother me.
This reminds me of Lord of the Rings. For the 1st and 2nd movies strayed so far from the books and my one friend who is a HUGE LotR fan accepted them. Then the 3rd movie came out and she was complaining about some many little things, yet it was the one movie that kept closest to the book.
I think because the movie will follow so close to the story, people will be more critical about the details. Where as the Chbosky screen play strayed from the musical very much yet people love it. The more the plot strays from the original source, the more accepting we will be of the minor things.
I think we all need to worry about the plot, the score, and the sets before the costumes! It seems like Chris Columbus is taking Rent's originality and sincerity seriously. While they hold a special place in my heart, I know that if they don't make it to film there are reasons why.

No plaid pants.... this is a problem. But at least Adam's in the movie... looking hotter than ever. Sexier I should say. You should go see it for the sheer fact that Adam will be on the big screen (as well as Anthony), singing all our fav songs and stuff.

While theatre uses costumes to make statements about personality, movies don't need to rely on that as much. While it is a part of Rent and its history, I have faith that Roger's personality will shine through in other places.

I tell you this -- if they're breaking from the Chbosky screenplay, hopefully that means that Contact or a similarly dark moment replaces the sentimental exchange between Angel and Collins in the hospital room! Musicalized sex is what I've come to associate with Rent.

I really couldn't care less if Roger is wearing the plaid pants or not. If 'plaid pants' is what Rent is all about and can effect our opinion on the movie then there's something wrong.
I understand that it might be Roger's trademark to some people but let's remain real here, people. A movie is not a live show, costumes etc have to be changed as some might just not look right on the big screen. And as someone else here said if I'd had a choice between Justin Timberlake in plaid pants or Adam Pascal in different pants I think we would have all ditched the plaid pants immediately.
Let's be happy and positive about Christopher Columbus obviously attempting to stay true to Rent. The constant 'oh no, what has he done now?' must be very frustrating for everyone (cast etc) involved.
Guys, let's be happy that this great musical and Jonathan's work gets this great opportunity and not cry about some pants.

for those of us with a serious attachment to the show, it's hard to see elements like that changed. in my own head, the plaid pants belong there and it's just one of those elements that a) makes me happy to know i can drop by the nederlander and see RENT live anytime and b) a little apprehensive about the movie (but still excited about it).

It certainly *sounds* like things are going well. Other than that, we'll just have to see when the movie comes out.

Well remember the movie musicals of the Golden Age. I can think of a few films that surpass their original stage incarnations.

I completely forgot he wore plaid pants until I read this and I've seen the show many times. It's not a big deal. They do not define his character nor affect the story in any way. I never thought of them as Roger's "trademark" at all.
