It's Only a Play SRO

I throughly enjoyed this play - but it does run a tad long. In fact, it ran just as long as A DELICATE BALANCE which got out at the same time IOAP did.

It's a charming and entertaining night of theater - but it might be a tad long if you're standing.

I went to the box office around 4:30 PM and they were selling standing room for the 8 PM and he said that it was a very rare occasion, as the Matinee did not sell any or last nights performance as well, as well as last weekend. It all depends he says.

They had standing room today and sold out around 1 PM the box office attendee said.

Anyone have any updates of how it has been this week?

They are not selling Standing Room for the matinee today, and Nathan Lane is also not performing in it.

God, Bob Stillman must have the hardest job in Show Business right now. Understudying Nathan Lane AND Matthew Broaderick may be the world's most thankless task.

And Megan Mullally is leaving tommorow too!!!

She was according to the box office. Also, standing room sold out somewhere between 5:00 PM and 5:45 PM tonight. After waiting all morning to see if there would be Standing Room for the afternoon to no avail because they weren't completely sold out, I went to see "Honeymoon in Vegas" (wonderful.) I went back to the box office at 4:50 to ask about it for the evening and they said they weren't sold out yet so I foolishly left to get a quick bite to eat, constantly refreshing telecharge on my phone to see that tickets were still available. I returned to find out that all the standing room spots were sold out, although the actual performance was not sold out, which annoyed me because the box office was very adamant about not selling standing room for the matinee because it wasn't completely sold out. Alas, better luck next time.

I showed up this morning around 9:15 AM and there was about 10-12 people in front of me. But once the box office opened and they said they weren't selling Standing Room yet, everyone left and I just stuck around until 1:30 PM when they said they were not selling for the afternoon. If you are going to wait, dress warm, because the box office staff will not let you wait inside. They are not the friendliest.

There are probably ones worse. They know they have a captive audience so they could care less.

When I saw this earlier in previews, there were SRO all across the back of the three sections of the orchestra. When I went again a couple of weeks ago, there were only people standing at the back of center orchestra. Wondering if the supply has now exceeded the demand?

Unfortunately for Martin he is coming into the show at a time when tickets sales drop anyway, so it isn't a reflection on his box office draw. I don't expect this show will continue to be a sellout, but I also think it will sell fine until it ends in March, especially since it has recouped and is offering discounted tix. I am interested in seeing what Short does with the role and the dynamics with the other new cast members.
