Adam Chris- there were some slight cuts to the score- I noticed them too- the one that sticks out in my mind is the sax solo in "Damed For All Time", I know they cut out all of the music under the crucifixtion scene, and I want to say there were some cuts made to the Temple scene
I went to the show last night, it was great! I asked ones of the guys selling merchandise if there would be a cast recording. He said "unfortunately, there won't be". Don't know if this is 100% the truth, but have not heard any word on it and, for me, puts the nail in the coffin on the possibility of a recording
supersam - Yeah that was kind of the feeling I was getting - there were two recordings of JCS in 2000 - the original revival cast, then the video-recording Cast (surprisingly they didn't release one of the Cats video but did for Joseph) - plus with the all-star one they're prepping for London, I'm not shocked they've decided not to do one with the Broadway revival.
Unfortunately, I think JCS timing on Broadway was rough. With Evita coming back with all the hype, it took all the energy/anticipation out of the room for it's opening. After all the positive comments a year ago when it was in Canada, it should have done a lot better - and I think had it opened in the fall, it would have. But seeing the grosses week after week, I'd be surprised if it makes it to see a 1 year anniversary (or even till the end of the year to be honest)
I hope Im wrong. I havent had a chance to see it yet - and hope to in the summer when business drops off and there's more tix/discounts available
So I saw the show today (loved it) but anyways, I talked to the women who runs the stage door, first off she was very nice. Secondly she told us initially the producers weren't going to record it because of how many recording there are and that they thought there wouldn't be any interest, but she has been encouraging patrons to write to the production company the last few weeks, and apparently the producers are starting to reconsider.
I'm going to post a new thread, but since there seems to be some interest here, already, I've started a petition for the production of a JCS 2012 Broadway Cast Recording. Hopefully if we can show that there is enough interest, those on high will decide it's financially worth their while to get it produced.
Why wouldn't the cast want one? They get paid just to record, and then they get royalties for each one sold. Not to mention, its got to be pretty cool to have a recording of your work.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
