JENNIFER HOLLIDAY IN or OUT OF DREAMGIRLS?

Well, Theatre Of The Stars is saying via playbill and Broadwayworld that Dreamgirls is on with Jennifer Holliday. However, no one in the cast has a contract. So is Theatre of The Stars, just scamming the general public? Or is Jennifer Holliday out?

Jen don't need a stinkin contract. She needs a white understudy, a limo to the stage door and she WILL be telling you she's notah go-win.

People have been asking on the Facebook page. Theater of the Stars insists that Jennifer Holliday is going on as planned. When someone brought up on the comments that Jennifer wrote on her Twitter saying it was cancelled, the theater said to only listen to announcements made by its PR/marketing team.

My guess is the theater is heading in the direction of officially canceling the show, and they're waiting to make an announcement until they determine if they can raise the funds or not.

I think you are right. Which is sad. In my opinion they should at least produce Dreamgirls since their bond is already in place at Equity, they can at least pay the actors and have one last show.


Sucks for this cast and Jennifer. The theatre should have been honest.

Have they been like this in the past?

Didnt this happen to North Shore?

There's a long letter on the website of Theater of the Stars that explains the situation. Basically, if they don't raise $500,000 by July 12th, they're closing up shop and all of the shows are cancelled. If that amount is raised, Dreamgirls and the national tour stop of Anything Goes will happen. Then they would need to raise an additional $500,000 for the other shows of the season to move forward. Like others have said, I seriously doubt it will happen.

Actually I sae that letter as well. But the theare has already paid thir bond to the UNION so the cast ould be paid. So they should really secure the cast and cancel those tours. Be good to Jennifer HOlliday and the people they have on hold for Dreamgirls.

I'd like to add to my post that if they did announce an official cancellation, it might discourage people from donating if the theater is canceling shows before the fundraising deadline.

Wolf Trap posted that it was cancelled. (Well their production) which was the TOTS version.

Yes the Wolf Trap production is canceled, but I didn't realize it would impact the Theater of the Stars version. I assume if it is canceled it would have to do with the financial troubles.

(Sorry, I have to type out the theater name, can't help but think of Tater TOTS - LOL.)

The Wolf Trap cancelled because of the uncertainty of TOTS being able to produce the show. TOTS was always the sole producer.


Anyway none of this matters. The show has officially been cancelled. The cast has been notified.

And yes it was a ploy to get people to donate money.

Jennifer doesn't look 50 and on stage can pass for much younger.

Not when she's surrounded by Dreams who are in their 20s, she can't.
