The tickets only went up 50 cents but that's 20 grand extra revenue per month--but, hey, it's a great show and it will be around for a long, long time

This is insane:
November 28 - November 30, 2008; December 22 - December 31, 2008:
Orchestra: $152.00
Orchestra Partial View (Rows W-ZZ): $152.00
Mezzanine (Rows A-M): $152.00
Mezzanine (Rows N-Q): $97.00
It is only the beginning kiddies only the beginning.
Its a business!
Like any business when you continue to raise prices, you price yourself out of many peoples budget.
Peoples salary's rise as does the economy.
Not everyones & not at the rate ticket prices are going up.
Everything is going up so people have to pick & choose . I no longer attend baseball games. Most movies I see on Netflix & the only way we see the amount of shows we see are due to TDF.
If the increases do not bother you & you can afford them, more power to you.
Remember, theater is a luxury & not a necessity.
Amen Mr. Roxy. I'm dreading the fall when I won't be a student anymore. That will be a sad day. And I'll be more dependent on TDF.
I do tend to get up early on a weekend or holiday if there's a movie I want to see to catch the $6 pre-noon movies at AMC. (The one exception I know coming up will be How She Move since I want to see that when it comes out and a friend is coming up to see Come Back Little Sheba with me, so I'll be rushing that one on the opening Saturday morning.)
But yeah... There will come a point when I'll have to say "thanks, but no thanks" to things...sadly theatre that doesn't make it onto TDF will be one of them.

Do you remember the roaring 20s from U.S. History Class? Eventually, people couldn't afford the goods!
The large and growing disparity of wealth between the well-to-do and the middle-income citizens made the U.S. economy unstable. For an economy to function properly, total demand must equal total supply. In an economy with such disparate distribution of income it is not assured that demand will always equal supply. Essentially what happened in the 1920's was that there was an oversupply of goods. It was not that the surplus products of industrialized society were not wanted, but rather that those whose needs were not satiated could not afford more, whereas the wealthy were satiated by spending only a small portion of their income...
I don't know if it's a supply and demand issue here, but Mr. Roxy is very valid in saying that people are/will be priced out. And it's not just theatre, but everyday life. Look at the price of oil...it's increasing prices of our everyday needs.

Ummmm.... this household hasn't seen a pay raise in 6 years. In case you haven't noticed WickedBoy the economy is tanking.
Oil prices rising has many factors. Besides instability in the middle east, you now have China & India wanting more & more oil. Instead of going with Nuke power (I believe a few environmental groups are now on the bandwagon) we are sticking with oil. France gets 50 % of its power from Nukes. Instead of using cleaning burning coal, we are tied to oil
It amazes me people moan & groan about oil prices (not you) but pay $ 5 for a Starbucks. The same people sit in their cars or vans for 15/20 minutes with the motors running for no reason. Go by any appliance stor & see every TV in the place on. Stores in summer have their A/C on but their doors wide open.
We could save so much oil by cutting waste it is pathetic but all we do is complain about the high price & do nothing about it. They have been paying thru the nose for gas in Europe for years. Add to everything the fact that we have built no new refineries in 30 years mainly because no one wants one built near them. The same people will moan about the cost of oil.

Roxy, I totally get you. As it is right now, oil is essentially a necessity to our lives because it fuels more than the majority of our transports and luxuries (if that is even possible). It's a combination of many different factors, but as it stands now, with that being our backbone, we're really hurting.
What needs to happen is for people to just do something about it! Demand changes! We need to fix our way of life before we fix the prices! It is society's fault for being over indulgent and unaware of what they are responsible for.
I hope my generation stands up and makes change. I really hope so.
All the Jujamcyn theatres raised their prices to the next dollar, raising their facility fee.
And yes, more will undoubtedly follow.
Oh my goodness.

They need more money in their strike fund.
50 cents right now, but if they raise it 50 cents every month, it will start to add up! Half price tickets are now too expensive for me.
As someone who would go to the theater as often as possible I can only go a couple times a year, and that is with the half price tickets, not even the full price.
How long until theatergoers put their foot down and say that the tickets are too expensive and just stop going? I know it is starting to happen. A friend of mine went on a trip to New York with her family and they did not go see a show because of the prices.
It is sad.

Great point!
