Hi. I was wondering how anyone gets jobs working in merchandising and as ushers in the theaters in NYC. Also those awesome gift shops. I just moved here and would love to work in one.
Ushers on Broadway are union positions. You'll sometimes see a posting for them, but typically they are hiring through the union hall. The other way to get in is basically to know somebody who is already an usher and needs somebody to cover shifts for them.
The merchandise stand in the theaters are run and staffed through outside companies. They will usually post in the jobs section of the Playbill website when they are hiring.
The souvenir shops I would assume you can just go and ask if they are hiring.
