Is this really gonna happen or not?
If God is real and good, it's going to happen.
There is no God. That's already been proven by the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal is a famous actor.

I want to see him play Black in a revival of The Wild Party. Ideally with Michelle Williams as Queenie.

That's racist.

Which WILD PARTY? Williams would be excellent in the LaChiusa version. Disastrous in the Lippa.

He did an interview a few years ago where he said that he wanted to do a play every 2 years or so. Seems like he is sticking to that.
I think he said for every two or three films he did, he wanted to do a stage production. And personally, (obviously) I love that he's sticking to that.

Why? You don't think good actors are allowed to be famous?

Everybody's got a fetish, baby. Everybody's got a fetish. If I had a nickel for every time I had to square dance in a jockstrap...

No, I don't think Jake Gyllenhaal is a good actor.
Does anyone know much about the play? I know I could probably just google it, but I'd love to hear some information from some of the informed posters on the board!

Fair enough. I think you are dead wrong.
He's all wrong for this role.

I saw the original production with John Malkovich and Joan Allen, both of whom were unbeatably good. It has two spectacular, flashy roles. It's talky but, with the right leads, it can be both funny and moving.

Jake is great, stage or screen, but I wish he were coming back in a better play. I saw both the original production and the Edward Norton revival. There's a lot of hot air in them thar hills.

I loved Burn This when it was originally on Broadway. To this day, I can't decide if I liked Malkovich's performance, which was about as histrionic a performance as I have ever seen, including Al Pacino's lot. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance, just couldn't decide if it was good or bad for the play. As I recall, it was a respectable hit.
Joan Allen, in a fairly straightforward role, won the Tony that year and he wasn't even nominated, which makes me assume without looking back that the actress category was light and the actor was either heavy or people did not like his choices. Either was, it was a very entertaining evening.
It would be very interesting to see Gyllenhaal do this. Some of his best performances were very quiet, and even his showy ones, e.g., Nightcrawler, do not lead him to chew any scenery.
York, I think he is a terrific actor. You liked him in Nightcrawler (I thought he should have won the Oscar that year and he wasn't even nominated), but not Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac, Prisoners, End of Watch or Brothers?
No, he's mediocre at best (and I'm far from the first person to say this). His twitchy performance in Prisoners is especially awful. Plus I find him an unappealing and unattractive screen presence.
I'm really impressed by his dedication to all aspects of acting and taking his career in new and unexpected places. Risk taking is what makes an actor exciting. I'm thrilled at the prospect of this. Huge fan here.
(His excellent performance in Prisoners was one of the best of that year, IMO, but to each his own.)
