This was the second time I've interviewed James. A more genuine person couldn't be found--and that voice of his is astonishing!
Thanks for your kind words, cory!

I tried a couple of times over the last few days to load the Carousel clip and watch it again, and it has not worked for me any of those times. Anyone else having that problem?
Astonishing was exactly the word that popped into my head when he sang that beautiful "never never to KNOOOOOW". He has an absolutely gorgeous voice.

A clip from James Snyder's Soliloquy has been posted on Goodspeed's facebook page. Wow. I prefer his rendition to Hugh Jackman's, Gordon MacRae's, and John Raitt's, by far. Astounding, indeed.

James' performance of "Soliloquy" may be affected by the fact that he just learned he's going to be a father. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

Well, congrats to him on both the fatherhood and on the performance.

His mother has several grandsons. She's hoping that James and Jackie give her a granddaughter.

eric, i believe you're referring to my comment on the other thread. while i definitely don't think it's too soon for another revival, i think this production will fall short in the inevitable comparisons to the '94 revival. it's very good, but not extraordinary, and from what i understand the hytner one was revelatory on every level. which is not to say this production (or another comparable one, since there hasn't actually been serious talk of this transferring, has there?) shouldn't come to broadway. all i'm saying is those are still some very big shoes to fill, and i don't think this production, while extremely enjoyable, will be the one to fill them.

I saw both productions and was won over by the Goodspeed version immediately. There's something about the intimacy of that theater that made the show work on a whole different level for me. Besides, Snyder and Teal were light years better than the two leads I saw in the Hytner production.
And FYI: quite a few Broadway producers have sent their spies to see this production. That, and Ted Chapin (of the Rogers and Hammerstein estate) loved this production and would like to see it move on.

"Snyder's "Soliloquy" was phenomenal. It was by far my favorite scene in that production. If anybody is planning on seeing Carousel, you should go! Snyder and Wicks were amazing!"
If they're planning on seeing it, I'm sure they will go.
But honestly, this production looks fantastic, and the clips are wonderful.
Teal Wicks is so talented, I wish her the best.

Eric,
I still see it there. Check under their timeline as a post made on August 6th (under "Goodspeed Musicals").
Enjoy!

I've heard nothing but glowing things about this production and Snyder's performance! Sad I'm going to miss it.

I've seen and heard the "Soliloquy" performed many times and by many gifted singers. No one else came close to what James accomplishes with this song.

I wish someone would a really good professional production of Carousel. I love that show, but don't like the movie.

I can't stop listening to that recording. I now find myself wanting James Snyder to re-record all of the male parts on all of my cast recordings. Maybe the female parts too. I can't get over how amazing that voice is. Good thing I'm on vacation or I would be very distracted at work these days.

...and to think that he didn't know he had a powerful baritone inside him until only a few years ago!

The NY Times has raved about both Synder and the whole production. This will certainly give more clout to rumors of a transfer to Broadway.

Dollypop, Thanks for posting that link. I certainly hope that it transfers, with a cast recording to follow!

Absolutely wonderful. James was in the concert reading of Heathers I saw awhile back, and despite not having too much to do, I really liked him. But that? I'm in love. Incredible vocal, strong and wonderful acting choices.
Bring this to Broadway, please? He could win a Tony.

Oh no, not better than John Raitt - very good, but not better. John Raitt's version is incredible beyond words.

Sadly, John Raitt is no longer with us. I'll take James Snyder...in spades!
