Sorry if there was a recent thread, but I feel like I haven't heard anything about this movie happening in probably a year.
Has there been ANY news on its development?
Just wondering...
I hope not.
It's still going. Apparently, they have a star all picked out and ready for one of the roles and it should hit theatres around 2009.
Oy, oy...
I have a VERY BAD feeling about this one.
Hugh Jackman would kill this role.
I don't know how she is an actress, but I would love to see Aguilera play Lucy. Just sayin...
Well, it's not like Lucy requires much acting.
Stand there and sing. Great, now emote.
Perfect.
That ought to kill off the movie musical resurgance well and good...
If SWEENEY is a big hit, this would likely for-sure go into production. I hope it does. I think there's a lot of potential here.

I'd love to see this happen. Jekyll & Hyde is a big favorite of mine, and it could make for an awesome movie.
If Cillian Murphy sings at all, I think he'd be perfect in the title role(s)...

Hugh Jackman would be awesome. I would hope they would develop it a bit more, though.
They are working on developing it more and revising the book to the show a bit. And hopefully putting some of the cut songs back in!!!
This show has a HUGE fan base over seas and could really do well if it is done properly. I am very excited but until a director is announced I'm reserving some excitment because that can make or break the movie.
what do you mean who would play Lucy.... there is only ONE Lucy in the world and that is LINDA EDER.
I have to agree that Hugh Jackman would be great in that.
of course, they would probably mess it all up and it would end up being...

JEKYLL AND HYDE
The thriller Movie Musical
Speilberg has said he wants to direct a musical. Why not this one?
I think this would make a great movie musical - not the complete concept, not the broadway version, but a combo of both. That is what I saw on the tour. "I Need to Know" "Bring on the Men" and a complete and single "Alive" were in the show, with the broadway orchestrations. "Facade" was also whole with the broadway orchestraions.
I have always thought Frank got a bad rep. Jekyll and Hyde is as good, in this combo form, as I would say 95% of the top hit musicals.
I love Sondheim....Sweeney is my favorite show ever...but the music of Wildhorn definitely has a broader more mainstream appeal.
it's going to be VERY interesting to see how Sweeney does in the theaters. It absolutely needs a big star, Like Deep, to carry it! Absolutely.
I hope they vito the idea of Linda Eder. I think her voice is too particular and they need someone with universal appeal. I like Kate Shindle much more. Her voice is like nothing I've ever heard.
I love Kate and Linda but I hope they go with neither of them. I am not sure either of them have the capacity to pull off acting in a movie (Linda can barely act on stage).

And isn't Linda WAY too old for the role now anyway? I'd like to see a fresh new soprano for Emma, but since it is Frank Wildhorn, he'll probably just cast Brandi Burkhardt.
Too bad Catherine Zeta-Jones is too old. She'd be great as Lucy. (I think Kate Shindle would be great, too.)
Emma's a bit harder to cast since there's not too many Hollywood actresses who are belters.
Hugh Jackman would be my pick for the title roles.
Ummm, Emma is not really a belting role (unless you meant to say Lucy). In any case, singing ability has never been the prime factor in choosing actresses to play in many of the current movie musicals, it seems. I imagine if a particular part of the score does not fit someone the powers to be want (ability wise), it will be changed to fit him/her.
I have a bad feeling about this . . .
actually it depends which version as to whether or not emma is a belter. she belts everything on the resurection album... anyway... why the hell does everyone on this board worship at the altar of hugh jackman. sure, he's great, he's charming, he can sing, he can dance. whoop de doo. i mean i like him too but everytime anything comes up as to a role in a movie musical (this, sunset, etc.) everyone and their mother goes nutso about hugh. i don't think he ffits this role too well at all to be honest. most likely if they do go through with this, they will probably use a lot of the resurection style orchestrations. that requires jekyll/hyde to be a rock tenor with some baritone notes as opposed the more traditional show score (any of them really)which requires a a solid baritone with some good tenor notes. I think they should think outside the box a little on this casting. i don't really have any ideas, i would just love to be suprised. although i guess it really doesn't matter since one of the few interesting things about this show is that the actor has to play two completely different characters with different voices, and on film they can do anything. I'm not gonna lie, i'm expecting some serious cg hyde with major voice modification. there goes the cool thing about the role...
Nooooooooo! People who love the show (dont get why) Can buy the DVD dont waste a perfectly good slot for a movie musical with that junk.
Broadwayboy... I would love to know why you "don't get why" people would like Jekyll and Hyde. I will be the first to admit that they messed it up when it went to broadway but maybe you did not see it when it toured originally... back when it was actually very dark and much much more amazing then what they turned it into.
PLEASE.. enlighten me. I would love to know.
