re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

i just checked my vocal selections book. its supposed to be an E below middle C. there is no optional note.

yeah, its super low SUPER low..but apparently Jenna gets an alternate note...i would like to know if anyone wh has seen her knows what that note might be and were you disappointed that she didn't hit the note as written?

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

If anything, it's the last note of the song. If it were an alternate note, it might be a G, or maybe the octave above that E (right above middle C). I wouldn't be disappointed because...it's more of a character interpretation. A song in theatre is communication, rather than whether a note should be hit or not.

aigoo..i totally agree 100% with YOU...but some of the Wicked fans are very die-hard and it seems the last notes of songs are often criticized..so i was just wondering the feeling some had.

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

I dont know the name of the note but it was higher. It wasnt that low "girl". It sounded a lot better than I think it would have if she tried to sing it as it is written.

Also, I dont know if this is just Jenna, she was the one I saw Friday night. Stephanie may or may not sing it low as was originally written.

But personally as it got near the end of that song I was hoping that she would sing it higher because in general I think that note can be extremely ugly if not done right and I think that Jenna's voice is too high for it so the change was perfect

WickedRentHead is right, that note can be quite sour if sung off key. I remember the first time I saw Sho in the role, she sort of well..biffed it. Changing notes is what happens when roles are switched. It's part of what makes each actors' performence the unique one that it is.

Stephanie does sing it as originally written.
What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

I may be wrong, but I thought she sang the same note as on the word "that." Instead of going down to the lower note on "girl," she just stayed on the same one. When I saw the Saturday 12/10 matinee in Hartford, I believe that is what she did. Again, I may be imagining this, but I think she just stayed on the same note as the one before it.

Joshua, it would make perfect sense that she sang it that way (if she did). I kind of always felt the song should end like that anyway.

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

I wonder if there's any chance of Jenna coming to Broadway to replace Michelle as nessa...

I guess it depends on her current contract...

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

Yes! Joshua you are right. She did sing it the same at "that" and it was a good call to do it that way.

BroadwyayGirl, I think it all depends on who sings it. It does make more sense for it to be sung that way but if theres someone who can hit the low "girl" then it sounds good as is also. Ive heard both Shoshana and Idina sing it as written, with Idina, it sounded okay because she can sing the note without it sounding terribly ugly, whish Shoshana, not so much...when I heard her anyway, she may be able to sing it now.

I agree with whats been said that it all depends on the actress. I personally think then Jenna has a higher voice for Elphaba so it would be difficult for her to sing that low and Im glad they decided to change it for her instead of having her attempt it as its written and have it potentially sound horrible

Is she really? Cuz I saw her a bunch of times when she was in for Steph in Chicago, and she hit the original note...odd.

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

Really? Hmm thats interesting. I mean, I know she can sing low because she does it during the Finale. The line "because I knew you" that Elphaba sings with Glinda is low and she still sounded beautiful. I just noticed that her voice seems to be higher in general than other Elphabas. I dont know why they changed "Im Not That Girl" then again they changed the harmonies in "What is This Feeling" too so that Jenna sang the higher part and Kendra the lower and Im not sure if that was for Jenna or for Kendra.

Anyone whos seen the show with Stephanie can you clarify? Does Stephanie usually sing the higher part when they split in WITF?

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

Well..I'm not sure abotu WitF but I know Kendra can't sing THAT high..

During Thank Goodness she doesn't sing any of the high stuff at the end (like ALL the other Glinda's I've seen do) the woman on the bridge above her sings the C to the E....(todayyyy!!)...did that make sense?

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

REALLY?? Because I heard the high note during Thank Goodness and didnt think Kendra could sing that high so I was wondering where it came from. hmm...

As for WitF, I originally thought it was because Kendra couldnt sing the higher part, but then I wasnt sure so if anyone knows what Im talking about and has either heard it sung with the parts changed or have heard it with Glinda singing the high and Elphaba the low as its supposed to be, let us know because im curious

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

Someone had told me before I saw the tour that the woman on the bridge sang those high notes, and after seeing the tour twice (once 2nd row, once 5th) I realized that YES Kendra does NOT sing those notes..kinda sad...

Yeah..to be honest I can't remember who sang what in WitF...lol..I'm no help..I know that in For Good Elphaba sings the higher parts and Glinda the lower ones, maybe sometimes they do it for other songs too?? don't know...

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

The song actually is higher in the score than it is in the vocal selections book. In the show it is a half a step higher, making it slightly easier. As for the Kendra thing, I know that Katie Adams, the glinda u.s. sings the upper notes. Hope that helps.

John..you rock!!

Wow...Not that girl is HIGHER in the show..thats...amazing...good...now I could actually sing it!

and if Katie Adams is the one doing the crazy high notes, how come she's only the u/s..make her the damn Glinda!

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

I know last week when I saw Wicked on Broadway Sho took the end note during INTG up an octave...I think that's the right terminology. She usually struggles with that note, especially if she's not feeling well. And because Sho took it up, Megan did as well during her INTG reprise. I thought that was interesting. I think it sounds better, at least with Sho's voice, to sing the note higher, but it's also important I think to stay true to what was written
"Free from what, Tracy? Free from what?"

re: Jenna's note in 'i'm Not that Girl'??

Kate Reinders sings the reprise's last note up the octave, and Ana sings it the original way..

I don't care...if you sing pretty you do as you like with that song :)
