Right?
She is not happy.

Wow! Haven't seen a celebrity of that stature be so honest in a long time regarding a b-way experience!

Her voice is incredible but I found her performance to be very wooden. I can't see anyone else winning that Tony except Goldsberry and I've been saying that since early last year. Disappointed Hudson is acting so bitter.
I hate to say it, but that's show biz, J-Hud. I thought she was wonderful and totally deserved a nomination, but I equally understand that the competition was just too fierce this year. Come back to Broadway again sometime soon!!! We like you a lot.

To be honest, I am surprised she wasn't nominated. I saw it and she was great. Cynthia is obviously the star though.
Wow.
But if it was between her and Danielle Brooks to get a nod for featured actress, I'm happy it was Ms. Brooks. She is wonderful.
Holy crap! How immature!
I just took a screenshot of that. Knowing how these things go, she'll probably delete that tweet very soon.
Let her vent. I think a lot of people are upset she wasn't nominated but she's young and will have other opportunities in the future.

She won an Academy Award for her first film, I guess she was hoping she would win a Tony on her first shot too.
I actually thought she'd receive a nomination before Danielle Brooks (not to take away from her performance).

I think she only took the role because she thought she would get a Tony, Like Margo319 said she did earn an oscar for her first film.
She gives a towering performance that is so character-specific and selfless. Her chemistry with Erivo moved me to tears. She deserved the nomination as did Danielle Brooks. I can't imagine a nun singing to a slot machine was a more deserving role but these things happen all the time. I just hope she doesn't stay away from Broadway or from working with Doyle.
"Let her vent"? She can vent privately. That tweet is tacky.

I agree, I think she deserved a nom. I hope she goes on Broadway more but that tweet makes me think she won't.
Well she's doing TLM at the Bowl, so she still seems to enjoy live theater.
I did read somewhere (and I believe it was gossip column so take that for what it's worth) that she was not happy with the rigors of Broadway.

It is a widely held belief among storytellers that comedy is much more difficult to do well than drama. In the Tony voters' opinion, Simmard gave a better comedic performance than Hudson gave a dramatic performance. Should we split the categories by genre to keep us from comparing apples to oranges? Maybe, but that's not the way it is. Please don't discredit a performance just because it's a comedic one.

She is doing The Little Mermaid at the Bowl? I'm not seeing that announced?
She's right. She was cast for her celebrity and she is selling the tickets. Shug Avery isn't a particularly well written role. I certainly bought my ticket to the show because she is in it, but fell in love with Erivo and Brooks along the way.
I saw the show 2x and I felt like she was flat but when I saw the Prince tribute, I realized that the director must have guided her to be low key bc she was a star in the video. I think the lack of acclaim and nod is the direction and not the talent. If I didn't see the video, I would have gone away thinking that she wasn't Broadway quality, but she definitely is, she just needs a part where she can unleash the beast.
But I can't help but laugh at the All about Eve trope when she stole Dreamgirls from Beyoncé and the same thing happened to her.
emo, wait....maybe I'm confused.
Let me go check.
ETA: You're right, I have no idea where I got that from! Sorry.

lol, I didn't even think of that.
It's interesting that people think she's mad. It seems to me like she knew exactly what was going on the whole time. The producers wanted a "name" and she wanted to perform on Broadway. Sounds like a deal to me. She obviously was not too concerned with the Tony Awards, considering that her contract was negotiated to end before June.
