I believe Robert Westenberg is in the 'key party' scene. I'll have to watch that film again...
I have to watch Passion again, too. 'Look at me, Captain. Look at me.'

Jere Shea is talented, but it is a limited talent. Passion was a show where his role seemed to play to all of his strengths while hiding his weaknesses. I wasn't fully aware of that until I saw him in another play by Pete Gurney called (I think) Labor Day done at Manhattan Theatre Club. In this play Shea was almost stranded alone with little emotional connect to other things that were happening on stage.
Then again, that could have been the way he was directed.
I am also one of those minority voices (on this board at least) who found the original production of Passion to be a chore to watch. So much so that I have had no real desire to see later ones.

"It seems time to ask again: Hunter, what shows DO you like?"
Well we know one show he does love...THE LION KING!
That alone should tell you something.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Shea did have back problems during Passion, but I wasn't aware that interfered with his acting.
I can see how some people might have been bored by Passion, it is such a unique show that it doesn't appeal to everyone. However, I consider myself one of the luckiest persons for having been able to see the original production, it doesn't get any better than Donna Murphy, Jere Shea, Marin Mazzie, and Tom Alredge on the same show.

Well, it IS available on DVD... :P
Either way, I don't think Passion is boring at all. I think it's gorgeous and moving, but then again, as I have pointed out before, I have an attention span. Jere Shea is wonderful in the part, and James Lapine directed it just fine. Giorgio's journey is a journey of understatement. There's a subtlety that not everyone will get, and subtlety is just fine in my book.

WOSQ...do me a favor and try again. The first few times I saw it it bored me to death too. Same thing with Sunday in the Park With George. They're now among my favorite shows.

Someone earlier in the thread said Jere Shea is "no Michael Cerveris..."
You're right - Shea was so much better than Cerveris, and LuPone didn't give a tenth of the performance that Donna Murphy did.
While were on the subject -- As much as I loved Maria Friedman and Michael Ball in Woman in White, even the two of them came up short in Passion. For me, no one has come close to Murphy and Shea's performances.

Everytime you sign as Tootie, Enchanted, all I picture is Margaret O'Brien saying those words and it disturbs me.
But then again, Mary Astor did say she wasn't much less bratty than her character...
Enchanted, while most of the time I don't agree with you, I am still fascinated by you.

I like Shea's vulnerability in his final scene with Fosca. It makes me wonder where that was the rest of the show...
Overall I liked Cerveris better, though it was better sung by Shea.
And I agree with you on Donna Murphy, but then again I don't think anyone comes close to matching Donna in pretty much everything...
