"i can't believe this is even a question. "
Why not? Are you kidding me? JERSEY BOYS is supposedly fantastic - and no one is expecting it to be at all. Everyone I know that has seen it said that's excellent, and not what we're all expecting from a jukebox musical.
I HAVE seen THE COLOR PURPLE, and I would recommend almost anything OTHER than it.

a) I don't consider the color purple any better for simply telling the story of a famous book and film, expecting people to be moved by it simply because they're familiar with the story, and not actually trying to use any theatrical storytelling. Give me 10 All Shook Ups over another Color Purple, in my opinion.
b) I wouldn't consider Jersey Boys a jukebox musical at all. It's telling the story of a particular band...was it supposed to through all their music out the window and write original stuff? I haven't seen it, but something tells me this show is on broadway because someone thought the story was worth telling, not just because they weren't feeling creative.
