"Academy and Tony Award-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave will co-star with Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg in the world premiere of his new play, The Revisionist, which will debut Off-Broadway in February 2013 in a staging by Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.
Last season Eisenberg ('The Social Network') starred in his play Asuncion for the Rattlestick. His latest work will debut Feb. 6, 2013, at the Cherry Lane Theatre for a run through March 31, 2013. An opening night has been set for Feb. 21, 2013. Kip Fagan will direct.
Stage and screen veteran Redgrave (Driving Miss Daisy, The Year of Magical Thinking, Long Day's Journey Into Night) will portray an older cousin of Eisenberg's character..."

This pairing sounds really interesting, IMHO.
Must be a pretty decent play to snag her. His other one was awful though.
As a lark, I quite enjoyed ASUNCION and thought he and especially Justin Bartha were terrific in it. Eisenberg is perceptive and has an ear for bouncy, natural, funny dialogue. Witih Ms. Redgrave attached, this goes right on my must-see list for the spring.
My God, I'm excited for this.

with redgrave attached I'm very surprised some producer hasn't offered to just take this straight to broadway....

Call me a jealous b*tch and I won't deny it's true. But I want to punch this smug, mediocre kid in the face. All these actors-turned-playwrights drive me berserk. And now a Redgrave... Sigh. The Green-Eyed Monster.
playitagain-Me, too. I think if the reviews are good it will make the transfer pretty quickly if Ms. Redgrave's schedule allows it.
iluvtheatertrash, I don't know what qualification you're using to call Eisenberg "smug," but in every interview I've ever seen with him, he's come off as a humble, down to earth person totally separated from the Hollywood machine (which is also what I've heard from numerous people who've worked with him.)
From your posting history, you appear to be someone who acts, directs, and writes yourself, so your hostility toward someone for being an actor turned playwright is bizarre to say the least.
I agree. Question his talent all you want. I'm aware his particular style isn't to everyone's taste. But "smug" is about as incorrect a descriptor as you could choose for him.
I see Eisenberg all the time around the city. He's played with my dog, I've talked with him about...whatever and he's just a normal really nice guy. I don't think there's been one time I've ever seen anyone stop him for an autograph or a picture, I mean he's just this regular person who happens to act. Calling him smug obviously comes from someone who's never had any interaction with him whatsoever.
Just a word of advice to my darling actory friends on here:
Careful what you say on these boards, especially when you use them to shill yourself. Because, one day, you're going to come face to face with someone you talked sh*t about. And they might know you talked sh*t about them.
It's not a question of 'if.' It's a question of 'when.'
Oh shut up. Nobody cares what you have to say. BASTARD.
Stop shouting. The hangover is tough today. I mean...standing around with Dan Stevens and Jessica Chastain can really take a lot out of a girl.
Luckily, I never typed out the words 'Dan Stevens is a sandy-haired bottom' on this site.
SH*T.
You might have stood around with Dan Stevens but I watched Project Runway and ate McDonalds. Who's pathetic now?!
It really is a question that answers itself...isn't it?
As for Jesse Eisenberg...any man who can give the performances he gave in The Squid and the Whale AND The Social Network should feel free to do whatever he damn well pleases.
"It really is a question that answers itself...isn't it?"
Yes....
Heh. I'm rather enjoying this.
You enjoy seeing my heart break, don't you?
Yeah.
Do you guys know how much fun it is to play Whack-a-Mole in the same general vicinity as Jakey?
Cause I do.
Do you guys know what it looks like for a 33 year old man to sit on the floor of his apartment sobbing in the dark while listening to the Beaches soundtrack and surrounded with empty Ben & Jerry's containers?
Cause I do.
