"I would also venture a guess that unless you knew Jessica's age, you wouldn't give a second thought about it when watching her Cassie. Acting is kinda cool that way."
Wow, I couldn't disagree more. I think she is a very good Val (one of the best things in a show with some very uneven casting), but I'm really kind of surprised that no one here thinks it's weird that she'll be playing Cassie. She looks like one of the youngest on the line. I mean she's a 22 year old who looks 22 playing Cassie the seen-it-all rising dance star who left for LA, got lost in the party scene after failing to find real work, and despondently headed back to NY to reconnect with the only thing that mattered to her. Really people?

The only real thing about Cassie's age is that she's been in the business 15 years. At 22, she could have started in the business at 4 doing kiddie shows, or something. I know many 30 year olds who look like they are still in their early 20s, and, Cassie never actually reveals her age. It is only implied that she is in her 30s.
I say if she can act, sing and dance it, then she'll be fine no matter what.

Have you SEEN her play Cassie?

America's longest running professional summer theatre, The Cape Playhouse will proudly present the regional debut of Broadway's recent hit musical DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS as their third summer offering with a stable of Broadway talent including Brent Barrett, Dee Hoty ,Perry Ojeda, Stephanie Youell, Heather Parcels and John Scherer when the production opens on Monday, July 21st.
(Heather returns to ACL on August 4th)
Husk, your argument is a stretch. The implication is that she's been in NY working at that level all that time, not counting from her first role as Gretl in The Sound of Music at some random regional theater at age 4. I don't think anyone assumes Cassie is in her young 20's when they see the show.
No, I haven't seen her play Cassie, but I don't have to because my issue isn't with her talent. The girl is extremely talented. I'm saying it will be weird to see one of the youngest looking people on the line (and I have seen her standing next to those other actors multiple times) talking about how she needs to come back to dance with these kids. Mario was already a stretch for me as the "veteran" director with his baby face, but this is even worse.

Try to see Jessica's Cassie if you can. I think you'll feel much less weird than you think.
My hunch is you'll even like Mario better.
Just found out that Jessica went on as Cassie for the matinee today. I'm assuming she'll perform the role tonight as well. Charlotte is taking some personal time from the show here and there with Jessica & Kimberly Dawn Neumann splitting the u/s duties.
Also, for those lucky enough that saw the matinee today, Lopez was out(Todd Anderson played Zach). Lucky people.
When I saw that he was out I seriously considered buying a ticket.
I wasn't there today, but I seem to remember a slight line change with regards to the age issue when Jessica went on last Friday. Instead of "You got out of the chorus when you were 19" (I think it's 19, my attention goes in and out) the line was "You got out of the chorus years ago..."
"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers
I saw Jessica tonight.
They also changed the line where she says something to the effect of "18 years in the business and I flunk toilet paper squeezing" to "all these years in the business....".
When I saw that Jessica was on I bought SRO (show was sold out) and I'm so glad I did. She was so fantastic. Her speaking voice combined with the makeup look they give her make her look at least 25. Jessica Lea Patty was also younger than 32 and was fantastic.
Glad to hear the good reviews about Jessica! A Wednesday sell-out?!?! Great! The show has been selling out on the weekends lately. It's really sad that the producers didn't wait a couple weeks before deciding if they should close the show. It clearly could have lasted until the end of the year.

No, it hasn't. Usually only the Sat. matinee has been full. It isn';t consistent. It can be sold out on Wednesday night and completely dead on Thursday.

It wouldn't have made it through September.
BTW, Jessica went on as Cassie again tonight. Kimberly Dawn Neumann is expected to cover Friday night & Sunday night with Charlotte back for both Saturday shows & the Sunday matinee. And there's someone new playing Connie. Not sure if she's with the show until the end or if J. Elaine will be back in time for the final show.
yep I was there for this one, Jessica was gettin it done! Her athleticism really lends itself to the dance.
As far as sales go, we've been pretty much full every day except Sunday, oddly enough. Mostly sell-outs w/ SRO during the week, then almost full Saturday, with a huge drop-off for both Sunday shows. I'd recommend that as the day to try for rush or TKTS.
New Connie went on for the first time tonight and was very good. I don't know the contract situation but J Elaine says she hopes/plans to be back for closing or earlier.

The final cast list has been updated. Adam Perry will take over the role of Don starting on Tuesday. And it's still not clear whether J. Elaine will be healthy in time for the final show or if the current Connie(Liza B. Domingo) will do the final show.

I saw it on friday, but wish I had gotten the tickets for thursday instead, D'amboise was kinda...ugh. Probably didn't help that her main scene had the silly lopez reblocking. Also, the new Connie was great, but she seemed to be as tall as half of the men on the line! Made the four foot ten bit in H12 a bit strange. :P
