Jobs at a theatre?
#1Jobs at a theatre?

I'm sorry if this questions sounds very nieve, but it is something that I was wondering about. I am moving to NYC in about two weeks, and would love to work in a theatre.
Now, I am obviously not talking about acting or anything. I just want to sell concessions or merchandise. Are these sorts of jobs just hired by regular application process like you would hire at a McDonalds?
Also, has anyone worked at a job like this?
Thanks in advance for answering. Again, I hope that I don't sound nieve, or stupid. I'd love to work at one, and would just like to know. Thanks!

Yes AND no. While the application process is the same, it is very rare to get a job without actually knowing someone who does hiring.

I've seen the bar/refreshment group advertise on Playbill Jobs before. I've also seen ads for Marquee Merchandising on there before.

Theater refreshment corp. pays very little for too many hours, but I'm sure you can get hired by them and get a foot in the door. When you're working in a theater in any capacity, you network, make connections, and move into other jobs that way.
Another way to get your foot in the door is starting with volunteer or paid (off bway) ushering.

Thanks again everyone. Does anyone know if the Theatre Refreshment Corp. has a website?
I'm moving to NYC to go to college, and I wanted to pick up some extra money on the side working somewhere that I think I would enjoy.
