From a 1990 LA production of the musical. It's a shame she hasn't done more Broadway, I always thought she had the potential to be a star (outside of her "The Little Mermaid" fame).

Looks like all her big numbers are up- her "Nobody's Side" is even better than this. She skips the "big scream" during the instrumental breakdown, but other than that it's maybe my favorite rendition.

Sadly pretty much all her stage ventures were failures.

 

She is a great talent though. The CHESS videos are wonderful! Those shoulder pads though.

I was one of the coordinators for the talent and celebs for an HIV AIDS benefit in Baltimore in 92 or 93 and Jodi Benson came and sang. She was a delight; super nice, signing cds, sounded great. I wish she she had done more east coast too.

She's spoken about not wanting to pursue a major career. She home schooled her kids, and does a lot of voice work from the studio in her home. She also does occasional concerts with orchestras that I'm sure pay well and don't require a huge commitment. I think she's content, based on her public statements.

These audio recordings were on Youtube for a long time and then were mysteriously taken down, I'm glad they're back! Jodi Benson as Florence Vassy is a perfect match.

Yep. Saw an old interview with her on YouTube last night in which she stated she decided she wouldn't do any Broadway while her kids are growing up as she doesn't want to "miss" any big moments. They're both teenagers now, though, so maybe she'd be a bit more willing. I doubt it, but I can dream lol

Given her extremely Christian worldview (this is a woman who believes she became Ariel because it was gods plan for her), I wonder how she'd feel about the subject matter
