Do you think he wrote Rent because of its teenage appeal?

There isn't a single thing about this thread that doesn't make me want to throw up.

Wasn't a draft of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL found among Larson's papers?

If Larson were still alive, we'd have more original, groundbreaking shows. Not Legally effing Blonde.

re: Jonathan Larson Movicals I was hoping this thread was about a Tick Tick Boom movie musical (movical?!) in the making.

Though, that might suck.
A lot.

You must think I'm still sixteen. I dropped out of high school for a reason. And I don't care if you're pretty. I'm not admitting you are right. My soul is not a stage. I won't pretend I'm anything I'm not

We'll never see Larson's musical version of SAVED BY THE BELL now, alas. Anthony Rapp was all set to play Screech.

Its only a matter of time before Mario Lopez goes on the road in a tour or RENT.

he said if Jon were alive today what musicalized movie's would he've prolly contributed to, then guessed legally blonde for it's teen appeal

???

personally I think he would've wrote The Wedding Singer musical, but it would've been alot egdier. Robbie would've shared needles with Julia and Holly would've died of AIDS.

I think he also would've wrote the Shrek musical, but it would've been alot edgier. Donkey would've shared needles with Dragon and in the end Gingy dies of AIDS.

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

cartagena612, why do you think, if he were still alive and writing, that he would be making musicals based on movies?
I'm curious - because what I know about his works (pre and including Rent) is that they were all of original material. (save for one show based on Orwell's 1984)

A movical is a movie that sucks so much, it won't be considerd a movie musical.
