I saw the show this weekend and agree. The costumes etc were fine.
Clay was alright. He should lose the shirt; would be more believable. That said, the guy can sing. The real standout was Keala. Love that girl!

I agree about Clay's costume. Not that I WANTED to see him shirtless, but he stuck out like a sore thumb in that all-white costume.
I personally thought Keala was a bit too much of a standout, but that's really a personal preference thing, I think. I definitely thought she had a great deal of talent.

"Clay stuck out like a sore thumb in that white costume."
Because the technicolor dreamcoat was so terribly subtle. How dare the star of the show stand out.

That photo is from the very end of the show (actually, the megamix, which is not technically speaking even part of the show itself), and the coat appears for less than ten minutes of the show. The rest of the time, he is in the glaring, head-to-toe white costume, while everyone else is in costumes traditionally used in the show.
Never mind that the coat pictured isn't even the one that's used in the show... that particular coat ONLY appears during the megamix at the end of the show. And by "stood out like a sore thumb" I did not mean stands out as the star... I meant stands out as though he does not belong.

I don't think she missed a single insult except she could have added that he should have used a different deodorant.
Subliminal seduction.
Vocally, I was actually less impressed than I expected to be.
This was underwhelming
His vocal high point paled in comparison to others
It was very much on the surface
I spent the entire show thinking of him as Clay Aiken, not as Joseph.
There was no emotional connection
Clay went through the motions
There was just something missing
I never felt like he believed what he was performing
he came across as though he was bored.
He spent much of "Close Every Door" looking down at the floor
It destroyed any chance for audience connection
Clay was often standing awkwardly in the middle of the group and looking like he wasn't quite sure what to do
His vocals were not what I have come to expect.
He went into this weird falsetto
it sounded quite strained
with different leads, it would have been a much more enjoyable and much less awkward show
He does not belong

Any actor/singer reading such a review would be destroyed. Not Clay because he doesn't read this **** but dblue did a real hatchet job and then played all "who me? what did i do?"

I removed the qualifiers like "almost" but your intent shines through. I saw it clear as day from the first reading.
Your review of Keala was:
she is a talented singer
she was far too over-the-top
some Aretha Franklin wannabe
she drew your attention away from where it was supposed to be She came across as though she was trying WAY too hard
I was disappointed
She was far too overstated
obnoxious throughout most of the show.
