Was anyone else there? He was wonderful!
Oh, I'm so jealous of anyone who was there.

Honestly, I'd much rather see Kobak than Strickland.
Coleen, have you actually seen the show with Strickland in it? He was surprisingly good.
I would love to see Josh Kobak, too.
*Plugs his CD 'Above and Beneath' kthxbye.
.
Edit: For some reason I put the title of one of the songs instead haha.

I happened to have tickets for tonight and was beyond pleasantly surprised! Kobak sounded amazing, and I really shouldn't get into how incredible he looked because I'd go on forever. Let's just say, people who think Strickland is too skinny and small should see Kobak. He's much more muscular (but not TOO built) and looks much more like he was raised in the jungle, swinging from trees. He was NOT hard to look at, that's for sure. I really loved his voice on most of the songs, especially "For the First Time", "Who Better Than Me" and "You'll Be In My Heart". He has such a nice gentle tone that really fits the part, I think, but also sounded incredible on the more belty, I guess I should say, songs as well. His scenes learning how to speak English were hilarious! He did a perfect mimic of Jenn Gambatese that was really funny, and had a lot of little moments that just made Tarzan endearing and made you see why Jane was falling for him. He and Jenn had a pretty nice chemistry too! He did a pretty awesome job for someone who hadn't even gone on in the role yet. Yay Joshua!

Anyone know if Strickland was back today?
Aww Josh Kobak - loved him in Rent, love his music :)
I was there last night, too. He was fantastic! His voice is very well-suited for the role and he had a great chemistry with Jenn and Merle. And yes, he was quite something to look at... definitely the look of what I'd expect 'Tarzan' to be. I hope to see him again sometime.

He was excellent.
I did notice he accidentally (I think) pulled down the sheet where she shows him the slides. He quickly put it back up. Still, great performance.
I'd rather see Kobak than Strickland too.

Strickland was back tonight =(
I will admit, I envy everyone who saw Kobak as Tarzan.
First time seeing Tarzan tonight. I went in with an open mind and I really, really tried to like it, but I just couldn't. I was bored. The swining apes and all that green only managed to hold my attention for about 15 minutes. 20 tops. And that music, aw man, make it stop.
On the other hand, Joshua Kobak was on in place of Josh Strickland, and WOW was I impressed. I caught him as Roger in Rent over a year ago or so but had NO idea that he was part of the Tarzan production.
He has a beautiful voice that he was really able to showcase and really, he just looked the part of Tarzan. Before the show started, I heard the woman next to me loudly bitching and complaining that Tarzan was going to be an understudy, but by intermission she just couldn't seem to stop singing praises over that man's body : )
Physical appearance side, Joshua's acting and vocal ability makes me wonder what in the world he is doing as an understudy in a show like Tarzan. He truly made the show worth the ticket price for me.
Anyone know how often Joshua gets to go on? In all the Tarzan threads/reviews I've read, I have never seen a mention of Joshua until I did a search on him tonight.

When is Josh Strickland returning to the show?
I saw the show a couple of weeks ago, and although I really didn't care for it, Josh Strickland was excellent.

I'm a huge fan of Joshua and have been since 2003. I've never seen Strickland, but I can't imagine him being better than Joshua. Just... the guy is so talented! (That being said, of course Strickland could be better, but that's what I'm going on until/if I ever see Strickland).

What the heck did you just say, DevDev?????
I have to thank matjomae for actually searching and bumping a thread. Nice job.
I think Kevin went to Chicago to work on some other project. I may be wrong though...

Sorry if I wasn't clear Dollypop, must be the meds (I've had the flu all week)! But I just meant that I don't want to say Joshua Kobak is better than Strickland because I've never seen him, but at the same time, I can't imagine someone ever topping Joshua as Tarzan.
I think both Joshies are amazing. Strickland is more pop and playful, Kobak is more rock and looks scarily like the cartoon. This was my second time seeing him as Tarzan and hes only gotten better if that was even possible. Last week I saw him go on as Clayton!
Joshua Kobak is really fantastic in all aspects... the acting, singing (which the music is perfect for his voice), and of course he has like the ultimate Tarzan look.
Last night he mentioned that it was his 10th time going on in that role, hard to believe... he seems so comfortable in it- like he's done it 100 times
there's one new tarzan understudy Nicholas Rodriguez, Kevin Massey is not with TARZAN anymore

DollyPop- Josh Strickland returns this Wed. He was out on vacation all week. I know when i talked Josh he hates missing shows so he tries not to. Thats probably why Kobak has had so little understudy time on stage.
