Since many are hoping that the current "Evita" revival in London will transfer, I was curious if anyone else thinks the best choice for the role is Julia Murney? Any thoughts on what might make it work or what might not fit quite right?
I would not be surprised at all if Elena Roger comes overseas with the show.
Many have said that, but I would love to see Ms. Murney do it.
Yesss.
While Julia amazes me as an ctress, I can't STAND her voice, and I've tried to like her belive me, but if she plays Eva I won't be seeing the revival. All though I have to say, I hope she doesn;t stay with wicked for too long because theres a lot of straight plays I'd like to see her do.
I'm curious what you don't like about her voice. Anything specific?

I'd hit it.

I'd have a hard time physically buying her in the part.
I love when I don't feel insane. I think she would act the hell out of it and that belt is so good for it. I mean, I love Eden Espinosa and Idina Menzel, but I don't think they'd be as good as Julia would.
Who do you think would look physically right, siamese dream?
Well, if the revival transfers to NYC as tentatively planned, Elena Roger is definitely doing it - but hopefully they will get somebody fabulous to be her alterante. The role in this production requires a really strong dancer, though, which is going to knock a lot of the queen Broadway belters out of the running.
theatrekid..... honestly, I can't quite put my finger on what I don't like about Julia's voice, I know I don't like how strong her vibrato is alot of the time but she does something, I want to say it could be the way she enunciates things maybe? But any how it drives me up a wall.

Anyone who isn't, well, somewhat unattractive? I'm sorry, I realize that isn't exactly a nice thing to say, and I certainly don't think she's ugly, but I'd have a very hard time believing that Julia Murney managed to seduce various men. Also, I think she looks far too old for the part.
I think she would be good. She could totally act the part. But I would love to see Elena because what I have heard about her sounds awesome.
While I feel sort of badly saying this, Julia reads too old for Eva for me. Also, I somewhat cringe thinking of her singing the high parts of "A New Argetina," since, even though she's grown on me, her belt in that range tends to be so shrill.

That's the thing, though. I always found Eva Peron a bit on the unattractive side too. Her styling was what made her come off as beautiful, but I never found her features pretty.
The age thing would be my issue with Julia. Though I bet Julia Murney has been reading as too old for roles since she was 19, it's just kind of how she's constructed.

I don't think the "real" Eva Peron was gorgeous, but I think she had a more striking appearance than someone like Julia. Julia's features are... actually on the unattractive side, while Eva's probably fit into the category of "nothing special." I had a hard enough time buying her as a woman who had a relationship with the charismatic American chess player, along with managing to seduce a married man.
At any rate, it's probably something that boils down largely to personal opinion, and the noticable age difference is probably more important than her attractiveness (or there lack of).
And before any Julia fans pounce... it's cool if you find her hot. I'm just saying that 95% of straight men wouldn't give her a second glance.

You need a true triple threat for Eva. There's a reason why it's been nearly thirty years since it was last seen on Broadway. As good as Julia Murney is, does she have the chops to pull it off?
Of the American actors who would be vying for the part of alternate (assuming Rogers transfers as planned), the only two who come even close (in my eyes) are Idina Menzel and Eden Espinosa.

I can see your point. At least, I'm not going to dare disagree after the things I said about Laura Bell Bundy on one of the Legally Blonde threads.
Actually, better not mention LBB. If Legally Blonde flops, then Laura Bell Bundy might be vying for the Evita role too.
Andrew Lloyd Webber apparently loved Espinosa's audition for the London production, so if she is willing to swallow her pride (something she wouldn't do for Fantine) and accept an alternate position, I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if she ended up doing it.
