I believe I've already said this in this thread, but I'm pulling for Mandy Gonzalez. I think she would be perfect. She's young-looking with a killer voice. And she has the latin thing going on.
Let's save Julia for something better than Evita, as I dislike the show anyway. And personally, I think she's gorgeous, though I know some people disagree.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
I'm not saying she's King Butch or anything. She's butch. I've seen butcher. But Murney is butch. Not Indigo Girl butch, but those broad shoulders and the way she carreis herself sets off my butch alarm.
while I'm sure Mandy could sing the score like no other...going off of her performance in Aida she has a hell of a long way to go in the acting department. i remember I was horrified as to how ameteur she came off as an actress. Maybe it was an off night, I haven't seen In The Heights. I hope she's improved. I would love to see Murney's take on Eve.
BobbyBubby...are kidding me? Butch?? and even if she was (which she's not) she's an amazing actress and could rid herself of it. Look at her parts over the years.
RIP Natasha Richardson. ~You were a light on this earth ~
..."Evita" is no longer transfering to Broadway, so this discussion is rather moot at this point.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
My first pick is Anneliese (oh God, I still can't spell her name right) Van der Pol. Since that production isn't transferring the names thrown out don't HAVE to be a triple threat.
She's got a beautiful voice and played the role in a professional company at *15*!
Theatre is a safe place to do the unsafe things that need to be done.

"Physically, I think she may be a little old, but I think she can play down. She's done so many roles so well at various ages that she'd have no problem easing into a 20-something seductress."
Love is blind. Especially love for the Jules.
"My first pick is Anneliese (oh God, I still can't spell her name right) Van der Pol."
Scary.
"She's got a beautiful voice and played the role in a professional company at *15*!"
TERRIFYING.
"...think eden could do a great job, she does have a voice that isn't screeching you know."
Thank you. Yes Eden can belt high. Higher than she should. But in a normal range that voice is GORGEOUS. Gorgeous. Updated On: 8/2/07 at 10:48 PM
Eden Espniosa, please. And call me crazy, but I really think Idina would be great in this role, even if she just did it for a limited engagement. She should do just do a recording of it. I would kill to hear it.
Interesting thread. I love EVITA and hopefully it will make it's way over to Broadway sometime soon.
Having read many of the threads, I was curious to see so many criticisms geared towards Eva Peron's beauty. Beauty is subjective of course, and there is no right or wrong answer but having so many wonderful images of the real Eva Peron at my disposal, it's somewhat shocking to see how anyone could not see her as a beautiful woman. At her peak between 1947-1950(before her cancer), she was a sight to behold. The majority of people who met her, including those who despised her like Mary Main have stated her beauty was "extraordinary". Even as a skinny brunette, she landed coveted magazine covers in all of Argentina's entertainment magazines & modelled for hairdressers & beauty products & of course, cheesecake. However, her looks did deteriorate infront of the newsreel and photographers cameras due to her cancer so there are countless images of her where she looks anything but remarkable.
Anyhow, as long as the actress cast has a good voice, is a great actress and is able to at least "look" the part, I will be happy. The last time I saw Evita was with Kathy Voytko and a couple of critics gave her a hard time. One stated she didn't have the charisma to play the role and the other pretty much stated the same. That she wasn't able to convince us that she was able to "seduce a nation". So for many people, the right Eva Peron needs to have the charisma to carry the part as well as the vocal and acting chops.
