Julia Murney as Rose...?

Can anyone else see Julia Murney as Rose in a future production of Gypsy? I was just listening to her in The Wild Party and she has an amazing voice and she could be great. Thoughts?

Wait a while, and I could see the possibility. But nowhere in the near future will this happen.

re: Julia Murney as Rose...?

Well, Julia likes to scream just about everything she sings...but often times is out of tune...so I don't know.

re: Julia Murney as Rose...?

IMO she'd need to be able to establish herself as more of a box office draw. It's not normal to have a relatively unknown actress playing Rose and it be a financial success. Look at what has happened with both Bernadette and Patti . . . certainly neither production has been a sellout.

Maybe in 10-15 years at Papermill.

Yeah, I mean in another 15-20 years. Maybe she can become a bigger name by then, still she would be fantastic.

And perhaps she can learn to act with more than just her eyes in the next 15-20 years. lol

re: Julia Murney as Rose...?

And maybe she could learn to sing a score without screaming and riffing.

re: Julia Murney as Rose...?

My thoughts exactly ljay. A riffy rose. I think not.

Now, or 15 years from now, she'd never be right for the role. 15 years ago she'd had done okay as Gypsy.

To be quite honest, Liza's "Rose's Turn" is pretty bad.

The thought of Liza Minelli as Electra is too much to handle.

"And maybe she could learn to sing a score without screaming and riffing."

She neither screamed nor riffed (more than she had too) when I saw her as Elphaba, and that's a screaming/riffing role. In fact, of all the Elphabas I'd say she riffed the least (well, her and Ana Gasteyer).

I think she would be an amazing Rose in 15 years or so, but she would either have to magically become famous or do a regional production.

- Not really. Screaming and riffing aren't written in a score. Performers take liberties and add it in.

re: Julia Murney as Rose...?

I meant Julia as Electra. Liza is definitely a Tessie. with a T. Not Bessie with a B. 'cause Bessie with a B goes bbbbbbbbbbb not ttttttttttttttttttttt.

I personally prefer Noah Galvin in the role.

re: Julia Murney as Rose...?

I could actually see Stephanie J. Block playing her 15-20 years from now.

re: Julia Murney as Rose...?

I can see it. Julia rarely riffs and she does have a lot of power in her voice. Also, I LOVE Patti, but she tends to go pretty flat too.

Everyone stop talking.

I think BobbyBubby should play Rose in the next revival.
