How about starring in the female version of "Whose Life Is It Anyway?" All she would have to do is lay in bed, spit out a few lines and collect her Tony.

Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker! You don't even have to speak!
Easy money!

What Julia needs is a director who isn't a star****er and a play that requires movie star presence and not an actress.
That is fantastic: I wish we had more actresses like her, movie stars who want to be in theater, and want to improve themselves.
More power to her!
She sounds like a smart lady to me. I hope she does come back.
What's wrong with what she is saying? I find it incredibly humble and smart. She is accepting that she was way in over her head with THREE DAYS OF RAIN and she probably thinks she should take baby steps, start with an easier role. I do think she needs a stronger director than Mantello.
I actually liked Three Days of Rain, but it would've been nice to see her in something that actually played to her strengths. There was nary a romantic or comedic moment in the whole play, which is pretty cryptic to begin with.
I would definitely go see her in something else.
Who was it, exactly, who told her she could act?! Whoever it was, I'm here to tell them, and her, she can't! She best serves Broadway, by buying a ticket!
I'm with Bustopher on this.
Plus she wasn't TERRIBLE in the role...she wasn't good either but...it's just kinda a blah play for her to decide to do. Or at least a blah revival. Nothing about it seemed...necessary. This is where I give props to Katie Holmes for choosing a smaller role in an infinitely stronger play with a fresh, interesting take. THREE DAYS OF RAIN was just so boring of a choice for the biggest movie star in America to make her Broadway debut in. I'd like to see her take another stab at it.
I think she should do a comedy.
... she could always play Roxie in Chicago like every other movie star....

Easier? So she wants to play a slut? Hm....thinking....
More power to her!
More importantly, what play do we have to pick to get Paul Rudd back on Broadway?!
And Bradley Cooper!

Love it!
The problem with THREE DAYS OF RAIN was Joe Mantello, not Julia Roberts.
Roberts was left to virtually fend for herself (with zero stage experience) because Mantello refused to push her in any sort of solid direction.
Hopefully she'll give Broadway another shot in a more ideal piece with a stronger creative visionary at the helm.
when will someone just kick this horse in the teeth?

That's pretty harsh nexttoelectric, it's not like she's killed someone.
I think she is a fantastic actress: Dying Young, Erin Brokovitch etc. And with the correct play and a innovative director, I believe she'll do very well in the theatre.

I'll never forget seeing Mantello at the preview of THREE DAYS OF RAIN I saw. He was sitting by the bar, his head in his hands. The entire show.

I think there's nothing wrong with what she said. We all know she was learning on the job. Now, having completed the job, she realizes the demands of that play were beyond her skills. And that her skills would be better suited for something else, or easier.
And I think she's correct: she could be wonderful in something else, something esier.
I would love to see her on stage. She's delivered some great screen performances. I know it's fun to hate any popular celeb, but numerous critics have praised time and again for several film roles.

Me. And I am here to tell you and her that she can! Now what?

On screen, I think she's a decent, if rangeless, actress.
I don't think she was in over her head with "Three Days of Rain," I just think it was a lousy play. She wasn't bad at all, considering what she had to work with.
