Mrs. Andrews returns to the silver screen in what is sure to be one of the best films of the year, if not the decade. I can't imagine the movie not receiving Oscars for everyone involved.

"She must really need the money or she must really bored."
Not to put too fine a point on it, but exactly how many opportunities do you think she has or is offered?

Wow, that really DOES look like a male version of Toothless...
Was the image of Julie Andrews with big fuzzy wings not clicking for anybody else? It was like looking at an obviously photoshopped picture or something. (My mind had no problem with Dwayne's fuzzy wings and tights though, oddly enough...)

Obviously not too many.

And yet it's Angela heading to Broadway, even though she can't remember her lines, and is only partially committed at best.
Julie could do it - without excuses.

Posted: 11/21/09 at 12:36amI would hardly appraise the work ethic of a woman who didn't miss a single performance in her latest Broadway engagement as "partially committed." As for her upcoming engagement, she hasn't begun it yet, so that specific occasion cannot be appraised.

Just because you're there in body doesn't mean you're altogether 'there'.
And she wasn't the time before that, either.
I really like Angela's legacy, but facts are facts.

Posted: 11/21/09 at 1:06amI'd be very willing to consider the possibility of these "facts" if you can find three more people on these boards who found Lansbury to be lacking, or, rather, as you put, "partially invested," in the role of Arcati. Even those (here or elsewhere) who heartily disliked "Deuce" seldom if ever have anything but praise for the acting talent of Lansbury and Seldes.

If all that matters is the opinion of those on this board, then I leave you to them.
And yet, there are others who have questioned what they saw. Does she get a pass because of who she is and what she's meant and done? Obviously, to many - and even by me, to a point.
But not so far as to deny the obvious.
And for the record, there was no comparison between Seldes and Lansbury in DEUCE. Seldes is still viable - Lansbury was an attraction.

Seldes would probably be the last to agree with you on that. If by attraction you mean selling point, then yes.
What about Lansbury's performance was "obvious" in how off it was, in either of these plays?
As far as I'm concerned, these things have the power to loop around again. Because we're so biased to a performer, and know that we are, we talk ourselves into finding something wrong with their latest work. It's certainly more interesting than saying we saw another great performance.
Nonetheless, please, tell me what you think was off. I'm legitimately intrigued.

Omg, I thought of that same exact movie when I read the synopsis. They don't play it on the Disney Channel anymore.

Uh oh, them's fightin' words in these here parts!
Leave it to Q to find the ONE topic everyone here agrees on - the magnificence and majesty of Miss Lansbury - and try to stir up trouble and post catty remarks about her.
I'm not saying he couldn't be right, but Q is notorious for this sort of thing.
I'll pass.

Posted: 11/21/09 at 10:49pmCan I just say, yes, this movie probably isn't very good, but at least Julie is doing something. She could be at home doing nothing, so, I just may see it for her. After all, I saw some Christmas movie with her and some other older person and I considered getting it because of her. Did I sound offensive or perhaps mean, I didn't intend to be, I was just saying that this movie may be worth it simply for Julie.
