Julie Anthony?

I’ve been familiar with her for a while.... I was obsessed with her Sydney Olympics National Anthem performance for the longest time, but it only just dawned on me to see if she ever did any stage work. All I got is that she did Irene extremely early in her career, which is a shame. She has a STUNNING voice. I basically gathered that she’s like the Bette Midler of Australia. Would that be an accurate comparison? Reading her Wikipedia page it seems like she has retired, but gosh darn it I want her to do another musical. Hello, Dolly! in Australia, anyone?

Side note: the Australian National anthem is gorgeous

Julie Anthony?

Julie Anthony was appearing in Irene at the Adelphi in London when I was studying at Oxford in the summer of 1976.
I was otherwise unaware of who she was at the time, and this is the first mention of her name I've come across in the years since.

Julie Anthony?

I'm from Australia. Julie is now retired. She was a singer with a squeaky clean image. Always performing on TV variety shows. She also played Maria Von Trapp in 'The Sound of Music in the '80s and toured that. Even played Lady in the Lake in 'Spamalot'. A lot of cheesy albums with middle-of-the-road covers. Had forays into light jazz. I wouldn't say she was our Bette Midler. I am struggling to think of a similar artist overseas. Um, Maureen McGovern?
