Here right now...Beanie has an understudy. I paid $200 a ticket. How is that right?
Then she replies to her own post: turns out this woman is fabulous!
I hope someone got the word out to some reviewers. Not sure how much notice was given. Saw a video of Lainie Kazan the other day talking about her opportunity to go on and Barbra showing up after she called everyone she knew. The next night she was going on and was told not to call anyone. She asked if she could call her mother. Her mother had the list of people Lainie used the night before.
I just returned from today's matinee. I didn't realize Julie Benko was going on today for Beanie, and was pleasantly surprised when I got to the theater and saw the notice in my Playbill. Benko was terrific! Having only seen the movie once a while ago, I didn't have a lot of comparisons to draw on between Benko and Streisand, which was good. There was definitely chemistry between Benko and Karimloo, although their characters are so disparate, I suspect any real type of chemistry is difficult to pull off. Benko is a wonderful singer and actress, and I thoroughly enjoyed her performance. Fanny is a big role to take on. I thought Jane Lynch was miscast, but the rest of the cast does a tremendous job. I hope Benko has a long, healthy Broadway career!
I hope she gets the lead, whenever it becomes available.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I have a feeling that Benko will be going a lot for of performances and wouldn’t be surprised if Feldstein leaves the production (perhaps by her own accord, perhaps by “mutual agreement.&rdquo I don’t think anything like this has happened since Madeline Kahn’s departure from On the Twentieth Century several decades ago. That was a different situation (as in Kahn was good in the role but only when she felt like it), but if Feldstein keeps missing performances I think that might be her way of saying “f*ck this, I’m going back do doing movies.” If I were a betting man I’d say Benko takes over full time by Labor Day.
Or maybe Feldstein is sick at home and chomping at the bit to get back onstage. But the radio silence on why she has missed yet another entire weekend of performances is odd, especially with this rather unprecedented situation with her standby.
Yeah isn't it bigger news, and rarer, for the star to be out an entire weekend?
Hopefully she's feeling better and back in soon. I don't want to speculate. But if Reidel was around I have a feeling he'd be calling over to the Wilson...
