I understand the character was added specifically for the Shanghai production, but I wonder if they would add it to any of the currently running productions, Broadway included. http://www.playbill.com/article/julie-taymor-adds-new-character-to-lion-king-musical

That's a terribly short article, and it barely mentions the new charactor. Thanks for sharing though, interesting addition to the show. No rhyme intended.

Is she just bored? Why not find new shows and quit changing The Lion King?

I don't think she made this decision herself. Disney has been bending over backwards to appease the Chinese with their new Shanghai resort.
