Today, two of the best shows Broadway's seen in a looonggg time close - "Doubt" and "The Light in the Piazza.
May the tours do well, and may they have lots of regional success.

Two poignant and powerful pieces to ever grace the stage. We are eternally grateful for this great time and opportunity.
To everyone behind these shows, kudos. All the best. We look forward to your future endeavors.

I'm seriously depressed over the closing of Piazza.
Even if Victoria Clark didn't extend, I would love to see the show continue at the Beaumont.

I can see the glowing marquee of the Vivian Beaumont Theatre from my bedroom window. It will make me very sad to see the lights dim there tomorrow night.
"The Light in the Piazza" will remain one of my favorite musicals for a long time. Guettel graced the theatre world with one of the most beautiful scores in decades. I look forward to witnessing this magnificent show for the 3rd time when it begins the national tour in San Francisco this fall.
I never got the opportunity to see "Doubt" on Broadway, but I am highly looking forward to its engagement (with Cherry Jones) in San Francisco.

I am sad that I will never see LITP live. I've listened to the OCR and saw it on PBS. I can't imagine the intense beauty of it LIVE.
I'm thrilled for those who will get to see the final performance. It will be a memorable event.

Wow the Best Play and Best Musical of 2005 are closing on the same day. They are both really powerful pieces of theater. They will both be very much missed.

Do you guys think if I went to the Walter Kerr tomorrow I could get one of those $25 balcony seats for the final performance? They're only sold at the theater, right? How early do you think I should get there?

Posted: 7/2/06 at 3:54amGet there when the box office opens I'd say, EugLoven, you should try to catch the Broadway version of Doubt, the tour might not be as "intimate"

Yes. In addition:
Barrett leaves Avenue Q
Ryan Duncan leaves Altar Boyz
And my nose is congested.

No more "DOUBT"
I should have & would have liked to made the trip to the Kerr one more time, if I weren't so darn busy. Best of luck to the road company of the splendid splendid spelendid piece of theatrical brilliance!

Posted: 7/2/06 at 8:20amJust to let everyone know, there are still tickets left, alas they are full price but none the less! Now here's my dilemma: Purchase the ticket now and see it full price or not.....

kungaloosh, it really has nothing to do with Victoria not extending. The show is closing because it has consistently been running anywhere from 40-60% attendance, even with her there and with people knowing that the show is closing.
It's always sad when a show closes but LITP is not everyone's cup of tea. It will be interesting to see how it does on tour.

The intimacy thing with the Doubt tour may be why I take a trip to Boston to see it instead of in Providence...we have a monster of a theatre there.
I will miss LITP and DOUBT on Broadway...they will do well on tour, I am sure of it.

Posted: 7/2/06 at 9:04pmI was very fortunate to attend the matinee (7/1) of "Doubt" yesterday for the third time. What a magnificent piece of theatre and all of the cast performed with such vigor and energy. I can't imagine what it must have been like today. Did anyone attend the last performance?? Both shows will be missed.

Posted: 7/2/06 at 11:56pmI was at the last performance and it was amazing. The cast was perfection- and there was such an amazing energy between the actors and the audience that even I could feel it way up in the balcony. There was a ton of applause at the end and a standing ovation. Ron Eldard gave a little speech thanking the creative team and original cast and the audiences who came out to support the play, making it one of the longest running in Broadway history. I felt very priveleged to have been there on the last day.

I agree it was a very sad day for Broadway. Well said! However, I can't wait for the tours, and the future of these Broadway stars!

I too was at the last performance of Doubt, second row center and the show was amazing; as it was when I saw it in January and a few times thereafter with the new cast. Their performances were electrifying (sp?).
I am also very fortunate to have met and come to know Ron Eldard, who is as gracious in person as he is on stage. I met with him after the matinee for a little bit and marveled at how truly humble and sweet this man is.
Broadway will surely miss him and I look forward to his return.
