re: Just a few more days till WOMAN IN WHITE!!!

I SO hope it will work on Broadway. I doesn't work for me in London. Sorry. It's BIG, it's emotional, but in the end it's just too melodramatic. and the score and sloppy direction don't help. But who knows.....perhaps Mr. Nunn made some good decisions. Have fun in that awful theatre (which won't help I'm sure......)

"is it just me or does this show seem like it should open in the Winter? It just feels and looks like a 'winter-esque" show".

There is a tradition of showing Victorian ghost stories at Christmas so I guess that's where the winter feel comes in :)

It's not really a ghost story (O. K, at the beggining and near the end) as more of a Gothic mystery with some really grim twists.

Also, completely random, but if the show didn't go into the Marquis, which theatre would you put it in? It was supposed to be the Minskoff, but Fiddler kept running. I always saw the show playing the Belasco.

ONE MORE DAY!!! Let's all hang in there.

Will this be featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, or not because it's not by an American composer? Have they featured ALW shows in the past? I don't remember. And he hasn't had any new ones on Broadway besides "Bombay Dreams" but that wasn't his, technically.

It's difficult to find a theatre like the Palace at the West End for sheer atmosphere re: Just a few more days till WOMAN IN WHITE!!!

Who knows - maybe the sightlines for a fairly modern theatre like the Marquis may go well with the computerized images that serve as background scenery for the show ?

re: Just a few more days till WOMAN IN WHITE!!!

I saw WIW 3 times in London and I loved it. I'm not a
theater-goer so I have nothing to compare it to. Maria
Friedman was outstanding...and what a singing role she
had...not easy. Michael Ball was fantastic as Count
Fosco. I will be very interested to see what changes
have been made to the Broadway production. I have
nothing negative to say about the London production.
It was worth the trip over. I'll be seeing the Broadway
production twice (so far). I encourage anyone who can
to go see it.

I saw the show in London a couple of times.Loved the staging. I thought Michael Crawford was hilaroius in the role as Count Fosco, but the interaction with Maria Friedman's Marian was not that good. I also managed to see Michael Ball as Fosco, and the interaction between him and Maria F. was great.

Looking forward to see the changes that's been made in the Broadway production of WiW (according to Michael B. it's not that much, but the ending is different to the original production in West End). Cant wait to see the show again.

Michael Ball and Maria have great chemistry. They first worked together in the London production of Passion.

I understand Michael said in a recent interview that he is making some changes to Fosco. It will be interesting to see what he's done.

I saw the show in London and was not particularly impressed. Yes, there are a couple of very hummable power ballads but the show is totally forgettable.
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

re: Just a few more days till WOMAN IN WHITE!!!

From what I've read they've made the staging much slicker since first opening.

ONE DAY LEFT!!!!!
How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

I also can not wait and I just love Michael Ball. Did anyone see him in "Patience" at NYC Opera? He was so funny and it was a side I had never seen. I'm looking forward to this is hopes that it will be a decent evening of theatre. This season is looking desperately dim so far as far as musicals are concerned.

Yes I'm very much looking forward to it. And that's the whole point of producing the show OUTSIDE of New York and Broadway first.

Now that they are ready to bring it here, they saw what worked in the West End and what didn't, and can improve upon it. Cannot wait!

re: Just a few more days till WOMAN IN WHITE!!!

bdwaybug55, several people on this forum had the privilege of seeing Michael in Patience. A link to one thread on the topic is below. He was indeed outstanding, and judging by the audience response to his performance and the crowds at the stage door afterwards, he was a hit with the NYC Opera patrons.

Broadwaybaby6, I guess it's just a matter of opinion. I saw the show in London -- before the changes -- and enjoyed it very much. I didn't find it forgettable, mostly because the music was stuck in my head for days after I saw the show.

For those lucky enough to be going tonight -- enjoy!!! And be sure to give us some details... re: Just a few more days till WOMAN IN WHITE!!!

re: Just a few more days till WOMAN IN WHITE!!!

I am really forward to seeing Woman in White again! I saw it in London with Maria Friedman and Michael Crawford and loved it. Maria was terrific! I'm not so much of a Crawford fan so I am really excited to see Michael Ball play Fosco. Thanks for posting the links to the video and commericial! Also for all the Woman in White fans out there: Daniel Torres, who is in the ensemble of the Woman in White's Broadway production has a great website where he is doing a blog about the show! I wrote him an email from his website and he emailed me right back! Pretty cool. His website is DanielTorres.net if anyone else is interested. I'm seeing this show the day after Opening! If anyone goes during Previews let us know what you think!

Somehow, at least to me, without offense to anyone, we kind of sound like T**ny B*pp*rs, minus the million typing errors. TONIGHT"S THE NIGHT!!!

Also, today in my Ticket section, they listed the show. It was descibed as, "British favored Maria Friedman and Micheal Ball star in Andrew Lloyd Webber's new muscial about dark doings among a Victorian household." Pretty accurate, as the show contains love, murder, greed, betrayl, abuse and insanity.
