Wait, you're supposed to sing in Rent? Someone should tell that to all the screamers.

Is it in poor taste and off topic to mention that my favorite drag queen name ever is "Dinah Cancer?"
"I said it was unprofessional to stand IN LINE at a singers audition and light up in the line, when it's common sense that second hand smoke DOES affect some other people. Why in the world is anyone arguing with that?"
Because that's not what you said. What you said was:
"God, I hate it when amateurs are invited to play in the professional world..."
I'm not ragging on you, just clarifying why people jumped on you for it. You didn't say it was unprofessional; you said the people were amateurs. You labeled the people; you didn't describe their behavior. So that's why people are arguing it.
And for the record, I smoke, and I always step out of a line to light up, no matter what, and also usually move about 15 feet away.
Oh please. Standing outside on a line behind someone who is smoking is not going to give you cancer.
I don't smoke, I think it smells gross, and no one in my family would ever even think of smoking, but damn you sure come across as an obsessive loon and shrieking about CANCER CANCER CANCER OMG someone is smoking outside we're all gonna diiiiiie of CANCER does not do any kind of service to the majority of sane non-smokers.
I was once at an open call behind an overweight actress eating fries and drinking a shake. Is she unprofessional for treating her body "instrument" that way? Do I have any right to say anything to her? NO I DO NOT.
You equated smoking in line to being an unprofessional actor. It is not. You also inferred it was your right to tell someone they were being unprofessional. It is not.
It is rude of them. Sure. It is also easy to ask someone nicely telling them that you are allergic to smoke and tell them you will hold their place in line while they take a walk. No need to berate them.
By deeming yourself the moral barometer of actors you have in turn become worse than the offending behavior.
You are a diva.
"Mmmmm...that's what I like about it, Chick. Like takin' a drag offa death."
I don't mind being amongst smokers, but I'd definitely move out of the way toward fresher air if I were amongst the hopeful OBC imitators in line, ready to showcase my best shrieking.
However, I'd stand right in the line of the stream of deadly carcinogen smoke if I were going for the role of Mimi; the added rasp to my voice by way of cancer stick vapor would only enhance my imitation of Daphne-Rubin Vega.
Plus, no day but today! Live in the moment. You might not have a chance to sing n' smoke tomorrow!
Well, unless you rise from the dead like our hero.

I am in complete agreement that smoking in the direct vicinity of a nonsmoker without their consent is rude and disrespectful, and doing it right in front of another actor, especially one who has been standing in line for hours, is unprofessional and unacceptable.

"Keep killing yourselves and feel free to take a few others out with you along the way."
BillyBoy - It's disgusting that you would be so callous about human life merely because some people are disagreeing with your opinion.
Not to mention that you, yourself, could be one of those very casualties, no? What, with passing by their line, breathing in their smoke, and all...
