re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

I wish Ziemba was as strong an actress as she is a singer and dancer.

She is so close to inheriting the triple threat crown from Rivera.. but it is her acting that is holding her back.

Still, she does have a pleasing on-stage personality.. but if she had to rely on her acting skills alone.. she'd be in trouble.

It will be interesting to see if her replacement will add some layers to to the role.

What a pity, I will miss her performance in CURTAINS ... we are seeing it Dec 8.

Loved her in CHICAGO and CONTACT.

Depends on the role, but I really did find her heartbreaking in her segment of Contact, alternating between the joy of her fantasy dances, to the bleakness of her real existence.

re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

I think she's a wonderful actress. If you watch her during Curtains, you'd notice the subtle things she does. My particular favorite is a moment during Show People when Megan Sikora as Bambi rushes downstage to dance with Jason Danieley as Aaron, and KZ will look at them with a mixture of jealousy and disappointment, and then she has to pull herself out of it to continue singing playfully with the others. She's always in it, always reacting, always making strong choices. Contact was wonderful as well. I remember how joyful she was when she would begin dancing, and her face when her husband returned.

re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

Some people seem to think she's a pretty good actress. She was god enogh to play Beatrice in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING - one of Shakespeare's greatest female roles - at the Folger Theatre in Washington D.C. - considered the leading Shakespeare company in the country.

And anyone who saw KZ in CONTACT, then saw Charlotte D'Amboise's pathetic attempt at "acting" the same role (as unfortuntely broadcast on PBS)can clearly see the difference between good and bad acting.

re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

Exactly - I had forgotten about Beatrice. That's a great and quite difficult role, one that I'd love to take on someday.

Add me to the list of those who consider her a complete triple threat.

re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

I'm most definitely a Karen Ziemba fan and I would certainly consider her a triple threat. I'm very sorry I never got to see her in her previous shows. I've seen CURTAINS several times and she does give a very nuanced performance. (The whole cast is terrific. Another reason I like to go back again and again - so much to watch!) A friend of mine saw Karen as Beatrice in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING down in D.C. and said she was *wonderful*. And I've heard many raves about her performance in CONTACT and how Ms. D'Amboise didn't quite compare.

I went to the WorkShop Theater Company's Red to Black fundraiser a couple of weeks ago. They had a cabaret show with several soap stars, a few WorkShop members and Karen Ziemba. Karen sang two songs - "Darn That Dream" and "I Was Here" (from GLORIOUS ONES, which I haven't seen) and they were beautiful. Actually, the whole cabaret was delightful.

Karen Ziemba is adorable! I have the cast album to Curtains finally, and I'm glad that I do.

re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

Karen Ziemba is not the kind of actress that say Donna Murphy or Victoria Clark or Christine Ebersole are. Then again, none of them could dance like Ziemba does.
However, Ziemba is miles apart from being a bad actress or even a mediocre actress. She is a good actress who when cast in the right role, becomes a showstopping performer.

JB - all the principals are signed through Feb. and I suspect with as much fun as they seem to having together on stage and off, they'll be re-signing for more. re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

I hope so too!

This is currently my favorite thing on Broadway - I've reccomended it to everyone who has come into town since it opened.

Karen Ziemba quickly shot to the top of my favorites list - I had only ever seen her performances from "The Leading Ladies" and the Sondheim Celebration concert at Carnegie Hall until "Curtains", and seeing her dance in person is even more awesome than watching it on DVD! :)

re: Karen Ziemba in Curtains?

I wanted to see her next week in Curtains. She is scheduled for a vacation. I wonder, with the strike, if she is still going to be on vacation? And does anyone have the link to that site that tells you when understudies are going on? I did a search but can't find the thread with the link in it. Thanks!

I'm sorry, I'm so confused. Is KZ's vacation 12/4 - 12/10 or not?
